BY FAITH

‘Faith is the substance of things hoped for

The evidence of things not seen,’

In its purest form it’s wholesome

And with nothing in between.

Faith gives us eyes to see

That God made everything,

And although He is invisible

He is Lord and King of kings.

Faith gives us reassurance

That the word of God is true,

With an everlasting hope

And in conjunction with peace too.

It was by faith that Abraham

Left his place and lived in tents,

But his children were innumerable

And his blessings were immense.

By faith baby Moses was hidden

Against the king’s command,

And by faith the Israelites passed through the Red Sea

Seeing miracles from God’s hands.

By faith Noah built the ark

Whilst being ridiculed indeed,

But his household it was saved

And where God’s deliverance was seen.

By faith the walls came down

In the land of Jericho,

Having been encircled for the seven days

And where a miracle was shown.

By faith Isaac was to be offered;

Abraham’s only begotten son,

But God saw Abraham’s faithfulness

And ultimately no harm was ever done.

‘Without faith it is impossible’

To please the Lord since we must believe,

That when we seek God He will reward us

And many miracles we’ll see.

(C) P.B. 2022

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”  Hebrews 11:1

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”  Hebrews 11:6

“By faith Noah, divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.”  Hebrews 11:7

“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance.  And he went out, not knowing where he was going…dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise;”  Hebrews 11:8-9

“By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, of whom it was said, ‘In Isaac your seed shall be called.’”  Hebrews 11:17-18

“By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s command.”  Hebrews 11:23

“By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days.”  Hebrews 11:30

BORN TO WORSHIP

We are born to worship;

And to praise God every day,

To thank Him for our life

And where our gratitude remains.

We are born to worship

But unless we worship Him,

We’ll bow down to every idol

To satisfy that hole within.

But that hole can never be satisfied

No matter what we do or see,

Because we’re created to acknowledge Him

Where His salvation sets us free.

We are born to worship;

To appreciate all that God has done,

And to give glory as we honour Him

When we worship Christ, His only Son.

We are born to worship

And unless we bow the knee,

We’ll worship anything or anyone

Or everything we hear and see.

We’re created for His purpose;

To experience a depth so rich within,

And to acknowledge our shortcomings

When we repent of all our sin.

We are born to worship

Yet most times we fail to see,

The grand beauty of Christ’s sacrifice

With the price that set us free.

When we worship Him with reverence

Knowing that from dust we surely came,

It’s the beauty in meekness and humility

When we worship in His name.

At the end of every day

And at the rising of the sun,

We are born to worship God

And not all things or anyone.

(C) P.B. 2022

“Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.”  Psalm 29:2

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”  Psalm 46:10

“Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.”  John 9:31

“And the twenty four elders who sat before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying, ‘We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was and who is to come…”. Revelation 11:16-17

WHY?…BECAUSE

Why does God get all the blame

When situations go amiss,

Whilst we tend to forget His presence

When circumstances are filled with bliss?

Why is God blamed for all evil

When most times it’s self-induced?

And why is mankind elevated

Whilst His majesty is reduced?

Why do people blame the Lord

When all evil rears its head,

And where calamities one after another

Leave people wounded and many dead?

It’s because deep down we know God exists

And He’s pure as can be,

When the question arises in our mind

As to why He didn’t intercede.

Because we know that He is God Almighty

And able to intercept,

All wickedness and all things vile

And bring justice to every debt.

Because we know that He is very real

As real as the air we breathe,

But we prefer to suppress our knowledge of Him

So we avoid accountability.

And we know deep down that Satan is real

Who comes to steal, destroy and kill,

With a target on our backs

When we’re subjected to God’s will.

Because we know that in an instant

This vapour of life can disappear,

And that many times we’ve worshipped vanity

And for God had no reverent fear.

Because we know that He is the judge

Who stands at the gate of eternity,

And we know deep down we’re guilty

And His judgement we will see.

But thank God for His Son Jesus

Who was crucified on the cross,

To appease God’s wrath for eternity

When Christ paid the ultimate cost.

The ultimate cost for those who receive

Jesus as Lord and Savior too,

With a humble and a repentant heart

And with motives that are true.

It cost the Father His dear Son

To intercede for our wicked ways,

And it was the most humiliating and painful death

So the stain of sin does not remain.

(C) P.B. 2022

“Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you; and therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you.  For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for Him.”  Isaiah 30:18

“Do you not fear Me? says the Lord.  Will you not tremble at My presence, who have placed the sand as the bound of the sea, by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass beyond it?  And though its waves toss to and fro, yet they cannot prevail; though they roar, yet they cannot pass over it.  But this people has a defiant and rebellious heart; they have revolted and departed.”  Jeremiah 5:22-23

“And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”  Matthew 25:46

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”  John 1:12

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.  I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”  John 10:10

“For we must all appear before he judgement seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.”  2 Corinthians 5:10

“Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, and my age is as nothing before You; certainly every man at his best state is but vapour.”  Psalm 39:5

“For what is your life?  It is even a vapour that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”  James 4:14

“All flesh is as grass; and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass.  The grass withers and its flower falls away, but the word of the Lord endures forever.”  1 Peter 1:24-25

“That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”  1 Corinthians 15:3-4

LIFE

Why do we exist today

In a world full of confusion;

Where every mind it battles thoughts

Which some end in delusion?

And how did all of life begin

From a seed into a flower?

The cells and structure so complete

Full of wisdom made with power.

The mind deceived to believe

That mankind came from apes;

Our conscience so intense it knows

This theory our soul it rapes.

We are too occupied to discover

The truth of our existence;

The heart so full of stubborn pride

To the truth it is resistant.

To remove the veil from our eyes

Can be so difficult a task,

As our attitudes need to be refined

As our face is covered with mask.

How long can we pretend to be

Good people who dwell forever;

Who take our own path in life

And with God our ties we sever?

How does the soul discover why

This void always remains:

That deep set hole inside the heart

For truth it cries in pain?

And how does love so deep and true

Exist within the soul?

The peace we find so full of joy

As the mystery is told…

Forget the vanities of this life

As all are fleeting pleasures,

This stress to have material gain

To spend on abundant leisures.

Search deeper in your heart to find

The answer in your core,

As it guides you and directs you to

Its creator who shows you more.

Let’s stop to think and meditate

On our simple purpose indeed;

To enjoy true fulfilling fellowship

With our creator whom we all need.

He gave His only Son to us

To die for all our sins;

He exhibited His love so true

To save our soul within.

This man is Jesus Christ our Lord

Who eradicates all confusion,

To reconcile us back to God

Through faith the true conclusion.

And this is why we all exist

To choose Christ and live forever,

As He receives our eternal soul

Redeemed with love forever.

THE LEGEND OF THE THREE TREES*

Once upon a time

There were three great trees:

The Olive, Oak and Pine

All with magnificent of dreams.

The Olive tree it dreamed

That it would hold the greatest treasure,

With stunning jewels that sparkle indeed

And with a beauty beyond measure.

The Oak tree had lofty visions

Of becoming a mighty ship,

That would carry an important king

With the greatest of dreams on its list.

The Pine tree stood tall and proud

With a hope and a grand mission,

To remind us of God’s creation;

And to point to Him was its grand vision.

Their beautiful dreams did come alive

But not in a way that they expected,

And although they were used in mighty ways

They actually felt rejected.

The Olive tree became a manger

Surrounded by messy sheep,

But it laid the greatest king of all

Where baby Jesus He did sleep.

The Oak became a fishing boat

Not the mighty ship it hoped to be,

But the King of kings displayed His power

Upon the turbulent of seas.

The Pine tree had his dreams shattered

When we was made into a cross,

Until it realised that our Lord would hang

To compensate for man’s great loss.

All trees fulfilled their mission

But so different in every way,

Because God uses the most humble of things

Where His glory will remain.

So next time we feel insignificant

And of not making a difference at all,

Just remember that God will use us mightily

When we’re obedient to His call.

P.B. 2022

*Based on the Legend of the Three Trees by Catherine McCafferty (2001) and from the screenplay by George Taweel and Rob Loos based on the traditional folk tale.

“And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger…”. Luke 2:7

“Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples, and He said to them, ‘Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.’ And they launched out.  But as they sailed He fell asleep.  And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy.  And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, ‘Master, Master, we are perishing!’ Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water.  And they ceased, and there was a calm.”  Luke 8:22-24

“Pilate, therefore, wishing to release Jesus, again called out to them.  But they shouted, saying, ‘Crucify Him, crucify Him!’”  Luke 23:20-21

LOOK AT THE WAY…

Look at the world around us

And what will the eye choose to see,

Do we ponder on God’s beauty

Or focus on all the negativity?

Look at the way we’re created

Miraculous in every way,

Made in the image of God Almighty

Where His glory will remain.

Look at the way of an ant

Who gathers all of her supplies,

Having no ruler, captain or overseer

But is prudent and is wise.

Look at the way a flower grows;

It is majestic and pure too,

Birthed from a seed wrapped in manure

Where God’s glory will shine through.

Look at the way of a baby’s smile

That can melt the hardest of hearts,

Because it’s God beauty and His marvellous grace

That in this vessel He imparts.

Look at the way there’s beauty for ashes

When our world comes crashing down,

And when our circumstances are resurrected

It’s where deep fulfilment will be found.

Look at the way that patience works

When we’re willing to sit and wait,

Because God’s blessings and His promises

Are never found too late.

Look at the way that God provided

A propitiation for our sins,

When He gave His Son, His only Son

To save our soul within.

And look at the way of eternity

Where an end is nowhere in sight,

Because God is the Alpha and the Omega;

Our eternal everlasting light.

THE GREATEST GIFT

We have felt the anticipation

When presented with a gift;

It’s the joy in not knowing

What possibly could be in our midst.

It’s the desire to unwrap

With the element of surprise,

And discover the hidden beauty

With that hunger in our eyes.

Although our gifts are thoughtful

They will perish eventually,

Because we simply cannot carry them

Into eternity.

There’s a gift that lasts forever

And He hung upon a tree,

Becoming a curse who took our place

So from our sins we are set free.

This gift is Jesus Christ;

All wrapped up in love and grace,

Who unravelled Himself as the Messiah

So God’s rejection we do not face.

And this gift is the greatest

Although He humbled Himself indeed,

To present us spotless to the Father

When for our souls He’d intercede.

This gift is so priceless

But bought by His precious blood,

Because our greatest friend lay down His life

When He unfolded His deepest love.

And His presence will abound

When we trust in Jesus Christ,

Who was crucified but rose again

Full of majesty and light.

LAMBS AMONG WOLVES

The beauty of a lamb is clear;

It is gentle and it is meek,

Covered in white garments

Much serenity it seeks.

Lambs are lovely and delightful

And the hardest hearts can melt,

With their tender love and gracious ways

When their sweetness it is felt.

Whereas a wolf is always lurking

To seek and hunt its prey,

With a desire to maul and to kill

Where violence paves his ways.

When Jesus sent His disciples

He made it very clear,

That they will be lambs among the wolves

But with a message not to fear.

Lambs are sacrificial

And their tender lives are brief,

But we can learn profound lessons

When from their book we take a leaf.

Their silence before the shearer

Indicates a level of trust,

And submission to the hand of their master

Where obedience is a must.

When a person is like a lamb

A peacemaker he will be,

Because he sincerely wants to point to God

Where His salvation we can see.

Jesus is the Lamb of God

Who was savaged on the cross,

By the ravenous and vile wolves

Where their violence was embossed.

But He opened not His mouth;

Like a lamb to the slaughter was led,

With the heavy burden of His cross

And the crown of thorns upon His head.

Because the wolves wished to annihilate

Anything that was pure,

Since they couldn’t handle the convicting truth

And had no strength where they’d endure.

A lamb projects a message

That is pure and is true,

And that message is the gospel

With the good news of salvation too.

(C) P.B. 2022

“Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves.”  Luke 10:3

“He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth.”  Isaiah 53:7

“When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand.  And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, ‘Hail, King of the Jews!’  Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head.  And when they had mocked Him they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified.”  Matthew 27:29-31

“He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”  Luke 10:16

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!’”  John 1:29

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honour and glory and blessing!”  Revelation 5:12

“That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”  1 Corinthians 15:3-4

WHY DO YOU CALL ME GOOD?

When something is good it is wholesome

And just perfect in every way,

Because in order to be good all aspects are considered

When integrity is displayed.

We are too flippant when we speak

And we say that people are good,

Since only God knows the depth of our hearts

Where many things we’ve misunderstood.

Because although we may wish no harm

Or our deeds are loving and kind,

Only God knows the true motives

And whether it’s recognition we wish to find.

Or how can we recognise jealousy

When the person is as sweet as can be,

Or whether there’s hidden bitterness deep inside

And other traits we cannot see?

Because the worldly ways will tell us

That we are born inherently good,

But unless God’s light shines in our heart

Many realities are not understood.

When Jesus was labelled ‘Good Teacher’

His response was firm and clear,

That no-one is good and that right is reserved

For the Father that He held dear.

Although Jesus was God in the flesh

And He was perfect all along,

He needed to make an important point

That it’s in the Father that good belongs.

His word says that none are righteous

And we fall short of God’s glory too,

So how could anything possibly ever be good

In our strength in what we do?

If we believe for a millisecond

That we’re righteous in God’s eyes,

We have not understood Jesus’ sacrifice

Or the reason He needed to die.

Because it’s only through the cross

That we can be made alive,

And dead to sin once and for all

Where to His goodness we arise.

Every good and perfect gift

Is from the Lord above,

Where goodness, kindness, peace and joy

Are encapsulated in His love.

(C) P.B. 2022

“Now behold, one came and said to Him, ‘Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?’  So He said to him, ‘Why do you call Me good?  No one is good but One, that is God.’”  Matthew 19:16-17

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”  Romans 3:23-24

“Woe is me, for I am undone!  Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of Hosts.”  Isaiah 6:5

“Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  Romans 6:11

“For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves.  But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.”  2 Corinthians 10:12

“God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory.”  1 Timothy 3:16

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights.” James 1:17

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT LOVE IS

The deepest craving of the heart

Is to discover the depth of love,

To know and feel it with intimacy

Where it simply is enough.

To really know its origin

And as to how it came to be;

To discover the power behind its inception

Where profound joy is felt and seen.

Where its fullness with its wholesome touch

Is to be wrapped around our heart,

And to satisfy every desire and craving

Where we cannot live apart.

The beauty of its magnitude

With its entirety as well,

Ignites our heart and soul forever

Where peace and faithfulness it spells.

It’s sincere, pure and it’s true

When it emanates from its source;

It is divine and filled with gratitude

Where integrity is endorsed.

He has existed from eternity

And for eternity He will live;

He’s an all-consuming fire

Where our Father loves to give.

It took three nails and one plank

For forgiveness to be spelt,

When the epitome of love Himself

Our sins on Him were felt.

Because when love is demonstrated

It is sacrificial and it serves,

And when God’s love is poured on us

It is definitely undeserved.

Although He’s pure and without fault

He decided nevertheless,

To give us Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior

Since love only gives His best.

(C) P.B. 2022

“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  Love never fails.”  1 Corinthians 13:4-8

“For our God is a consuming fire.”  Hebrews 12:29

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”  John 15:13
