HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW

His eye is on the sparrow

And will watch over it with care;

His loving heart watches over us

As He has numbered all our hairs.

God feeds the precious sparrows

As His eye hovers over same,

So how much more will He provide our needs

When we call upon His name.

But worry and anxiety

Will not add a cubit to our stature,

But rather will diminish and deplete

And with fear our heart will capture.

Worrying can cause much stress

When we try to take control,

Where we believe that we’re responsible

For situations to unfold.

He clothes the grass of the field

And with flowers will decorate,

So how much more will He clothe us

And ensure food is on our plate.

When our focus is on food and clothes

Idolatry can take place,

Because we’re to seek first the kingdom of God

And to seek His precious face.

Sufficient is today’s troubles

So we’re not to worry about tomorrow,

As His sovereign hand is in total control

So there’s no need for fear or sorrow.

As we look at the sparrows

They neither gather, reap nor sow,

Yet our heavenly Father feeds all of them

And guides them where they ought to go.

We are more valuable than sparrows

And His protective hand will guide;

He will provide our needs and all provision

When in Him we shall abide.

“Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin?  And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will.  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”  Matthew 10:29-31

“Therefore, I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on.  Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?”  Matthew 6:25

“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your Heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not of more value than they?”  Matthew 6:26

“Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?  So why do you worry about clothing?  Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”  Matthew 6:27-28

“Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?  Therefore, do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ Or ‘What shall we drink?’ Or ‘What shall we wear?’  For after all these things the Gentiles seek.  For your Heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.”  Matthew 30-32

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.  Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”  Matthew 6:33-34

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”  Matthew 7:7-8

‘And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:19

WITH THE FLOW

When we go with the flow

We tend to not question anything,

And believe what we are told to believe

Without examining everything.

When we go with the flow

Our thoughts may not belong to us,

As we’re influenced by others;

Our emotions or our lusts.

When we go with the flow

We may believe that all is well,

But it’s where deception breeds on ignorance

And disaster this can spell.

Going with the flow

Is a watered-down version indeed,

When we worship man’s opinion

And in his philosophies believe.

To go with the flow

Can be dangerous too,

Because unless we question and analyse

We’ll never discover truth.

If Jesus went with the flow

We would all be condemned,

With unspeakable consequences

And with strong delusions sent.

Because if Christ decided to appease

Every whim and every way,

We would never know salvation

With an eternal price to pay.

If Jesus went with the flow

He’d be denying reality,

Through compromise and emotional ways

Where only God’s wrath we all would see.

But Jesus was courageous;

He was bold with authority,

And challenged all the leaders

Exposing their hypocrisy.

But if He caved in under pressure

And was ultimately tempted,

There would be no hope for humanity

If to the Father He was not surrendered.

Dead fish go with the flow

But when we swim against the waves,

It’s by God’s strength and only by His grace

That His path for us He paves.

When God’s love and saving grace

Is embedded in our soul,

We thirst for Jesus’ ways

Where rivers of living water unfold.

Jesus went against the grain

That’s why He was crucified,

When the carnal ways of humanity

With the flow identified.

“Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.  Therefore do not be partakers with them.”  Ephesians 5:6-7

“And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.  He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.”  Matthew 10:38-39

“If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.  He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”  John 7:37-38

“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”  Titus 2:11-13

“For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice, and envy, hateful and hating one another.  But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.”  Titus 3:3-5

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!  For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.”  Matthew 23:27-28

“Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world…”. Philippians 2:14-15

STRENGTH IN HUMILITY

Worldly ways will tell us

That there’s weakness in humility,

But worldly patterns will contradict

God’s ways and reality.

Humility is an honourable trait;

It carried Jesus to the cross,

To fulfil the greatest mission ever accomplished

Compensating for our loss.

Humility has hidden strengths;

It learns to serve with gratitude,

Without a price or a reward

And it is kind and never rude.

A gentle and a humble spirit

Is precious in God’s eyes;

It’s a peacemaker with meekness

And it’s quick to apologise.

The company of the humble

Is preferred over all the arrogance,

Because when humility is sincere

The benefits will be immense.

Humility has a hidden power

When it relies on God the Father,

And when miracles occur and prayer is answered

The glory belongs to Him and to no other.

A broken spirit and a contrite heart

Is like treasure in God’s eyes;

He hears our prayers and feels our pain

And empathises with our cries.

Humility is to be submissive

To God and to His ways,

And irrespective of the trials we face

We live to give Him praise.

Humility becomes increasingly rare

When worldly ways do grip the heart,

But through repentance and restoration

We are truly set apart.

There is strength in humility

And we thank God that Jesus Christ,

Was a humble lamb led to the slaughter

But resurrected by God’s might.

“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.”  Philippians 2:5-7

“And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.  Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name…”. Philippians 2:8-9

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart – these, O God, You will not despise.”  Psalm 51:17

“But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word.”  Isaiah 66:2

“Rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.”  1 Peter 3:4

“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”  James 4:6

“Rejoice in the Lord always.  Again I will say, rejoice!”  Philippians 4:4

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”  Matthew 5:9

“Do not love the world or the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – is not of the Father but is of the world.  And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”  1 John 2:15-17

FORGIVE US

Forgive us Lord, forgive us

When we believe our ways are best,

Because self-righteousness and pride

And both traits that you detest.

Forgive us Lord, forgive us

When we believe we’re teachable,

Because when those stubborn traits they still persist

With ourselves we are still full.

Forgive us Lord, forgive us

For not loving You as we ought,

Because the heart is deceitful and desperately wicked

Where selfishness is wrought.

Forgive us Lord, forgive us

Because we fall short of Your glory too,

Since all our finest work is like filthy rags

Compared to the holiness in You.

Please forgive us Lord, forgive us

For the sins of omission too,

Because when we know to do good but do not do

Our motives simply cannot be true.

Forgive us Lord, forgive us

Because although our motives may be pure,

It’s not until you place us through fire

That we’re shown to endure.

And forgive us Lord, forgive us

For thinking we’re in right standing with You,

Because unless Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior

There is vanity in all we do.

Forgive us Lord, forgive us

When we believe we’re good people indeed,

Because Your word tells us there’s none righteous

And on sinful ways we feed.

Forgive us Lord, forgive us

For craving fleshly ways,

Because the wages of sin is eternal death;

It’s the remuneration that is paid.

And forgive us Lord, forgive us

For our unbelief as well,

And for believing the lies of Satan

That a loving God can’t send to hell.

Forgive us Lord, forgive us

Because the fact of the matter is,

How can a pure and spotless God

Into His Kingdom allow us in?

And please forgive us Lord, forgive us

Through the sacrifice of Your Son,

Because it’s only through Him that we’re forgiven

When on the cross the work was done.

When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.  For I am the Lord Your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;”  Isaiah 43:2-3

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.”  Romans 5:8-9

“For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”  Romans 5:10

THE GRAND DESIGNER

Thoughtfully executed

With every specific detail;

From the hair on our head to our skin

To our toes and all our nails.

It’s a careful design indeed

As we’re fearfully made,

Where all features do work in harmony

In our exquisitely created frame.

But the hardness of our heart

Will deny that God has made us,

Although that won’t change the eternal fact

That we’re created by His touch.

Such beauty cannot be an accident

As it requires a brilliant mind;

Likewise when we create and build

We conjure up designs.

Look at the brilliant animals;

Each one with a beauty unique,

God’s marvellous ways are evident

There’s no excuse for Him to not seek.

We have a moral compass;

One that science cannot define,

And a spiritual component too;

We’re such a wonderful design.

God’s faithfulness is evident

And His forgiveness is divine,

And although His pruning comes with pain

It’s to refine us every time.

His masterpiece is Jesus Christ;

His perfect plan for eternity,

To redeem us through His sacrifice

So God’s precious face we’ll see.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”  Genesis 1:1

“For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.  I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.”  Psalm 139:13-14

“Look now at the behemoth, which I made along with you; he eats grass like an ox.  See now, his strength is in his hips, and his power is in his stomach muscles.”  Job 40:15-16

“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.”  Romans 1:20

“And this is the promise that He has promised us – eternal life.”  1 John 2:25

THE APPLE OF GOD’S EYE

When Jesus Christ is hated

It shows that He is really true,

Because when something beautiful is loathed

It reveals our heart’s condition too.

All beauty is to be embraced

Particularly when coupled with love,

As it reveals the hand of God indeed

And His sacred ways above.

But when God is truly hated

It shows the error from within;

The darkness in our heart and soul

Encapsulated by our sin.

God deserves all the glory

And we’re all guilty of falling short,

By not loving Him the way He deserves

And when all pure ways we abort.

We will not be held guiltless

That’s why His mercy we so crave,

Through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ;

His precious Son in whom He gave.

When Christians are loathed and hated

(Since they’re the apple of God’s eye);

When they’re tampered with and persecuted

God’s wrath will surely abide.

It’s proven throughout history

That God’s ways always prevail,

And although evil tries to dominate

It will always fall and fail.

There’s something fundamentally wrong

When for doing good one is arrested,

Particularly when kindness and respect is shown

But still hated and detested.

The apple of God’s eye

Will stand steadfast and will endure,

Because when Jesus Christ is worshipped and loved

In God’s eyes we are made pure.

The victory belongs to Christ;

Always has and always will,

Let’s embrace His beauty and His grace

So with God’s love we are fulfilled.

NEW BEGINNINGS

Refreshing and inspirational

Are new beginnings indeed;

A hope sealed with a promise

Like a well-nourished seed.

A seed that grows and will transform

As old ways are left behind,

When the fountain in our soul

Much rest and peace will find.

When love and faith are sown

In the soil of our heart,

There’s a hope that is produced

With a welcomed brand new start.

God’s mercies are new every morning

And although valleys may be deep,

He comforts and protects us

And His promises He keeps.

He lifts us from the miry clay

As we place our trust in Him,

Where faithfulness and steadfastness

Brings deliverance within.

As our old nature is replaced

And where His Spirt will abide,

There’s the process of sanctification

As our carnal ways will die.

Each year begins with hope

As we explore with a renewed vision;

As we climb new mountains and terrain too

Where resilience marks every mission.

New beginnings are always fresh

In every aspect of our lives,

With an attitude of gratitude

When these beginnings do arrive.

God bless us and refresh us

As He restores and makes things new,

As we welcome this new year

With a love and faith that’s true.

AMAZING GRACE

How amazing is Your precious grace

When eyes can finally see,

Your undeserved mercy and unconditional love

That sets the captives free.

How brilliant is Your arm of grace

That extends to lift us high,

That plucks us from the miry clay

And can never be denied.

How splendid is Your majesty

And with Your providence so true,

When Your grace decided to create us

To give You all the honour too.

How amazing is Your gift of grace

Because You had every right to withhold,

And Your pure and Your spotless ways

Are more worthy than all gold.

The riches of Your amazing grace

Grants us the power to live,

To search and to discover Your ways

And to You the glory give.

How undeserved is Your grace

Since we’re covered with stains of sin,

But Your amazing grace gave us Jesus Christ

To save our soul within.

How brilliant is Your amazing grace

To contemplate the cross,

To reconcile us and to redeem us too

So forever we’re not lost.

Your mercy and Your grace have kissed

So Your plan of salvation is sealed;

When Jesus is our Lord and Saviour

And our soul is cleansed and healed.

A CHILD IS BORN

The season has arrived

And on its meaning we reflect;

The special time in history

We ought to not forget.

It’s the birth of our Lord

When God’s Son came to earth,

And where the wise men they worshipped Him

With gold, frankincense and myrrh.

The Lord had a special mission

To reconcile us to the Father,

Through His death and resurrection;

Through only Him and through no other.

He was crucified and beaten

And He was nailed to the cross,

Like a lamb led to the slaughter;

He paid the ultimate of costs.

But His obedience saw victory

And it was His sacrificial love,

That paid the price for our liberty

As we’re reconciled above.

Those who receive Him

Will be washed and cleansed within,

Through repentance and humility

And delivered from all sin.

The birth of our Lord

Was the greatest of all gifts,

Because the rewards are eternal

Where the soul forever lives.

It’s a profound time in history;

A moment that cannot be compared,

When the heartbeat of the Father

Showed His tender love and care.

We thank God for Jesus Christ

And His sacrifice here on earth;

The most poignant but most victorious

Heralding our precious spiritual birth.

(C) P.B. 2021

“And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him.  And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”  Matthew 2:11

“That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”  1 Corinthians 15:3-4

“But as many as receive Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”  John 1:12

“But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.”  Hebrews 10:39

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”  John 14:6

“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’”  John 3:3

‘Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”  Acts 2:38

MOMENTS IN TIME

There is a season for everything

With a purpose every time,

With reason and with meaning;

Appointed moments in our lives.

The sacred time of birth

As we welcome our first breath,

As we journey to the end

Where there is the time of death.

There’s a moment we do plant

As we sow what we shall reap,

And there’s a time for the harvest

So there’s plenty we can eat.

Emotional upheavals do occur

When with our words we kill,

But through repentance and forgiveness

There is a time to heal.

Our tears will cascade

And there is a time to mourn,

But times of refreshing they will come

When laughter will be born.

There’s a time for solitude

As we reflect upon our life,

And we refrain from all the noise;

The negativity or strife.

There’s a time for prosperity

As we gain and multiply,

But the moment where we lose

Inevitably will arise.

There are moments we accumulate

From the fruit of all our labor,

But equally a time to dispose

When things will lose their flavour.

There are moments when our silence

Is the wisest thing to do,

But there’s the imperative of speaking out

To project what’s good and true.

There’s that wretched time of war

Where greed and power meet,

But we rejoice when freedom and liberty

Will give us lots of peace.

There are moments in our journey

In this life that is bestowed,

But the most crucial is to fear God

Where reverence it is shown.

(C) P.B. 2021

“To everything there is a season.  A time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; A time to plant, and a time to pluck what is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; A time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; A time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to gain, and a time to lose; A time to keep, and a time to throw away; A time to tear, and a time to sew; A time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; A time of war, and a time of peace.”  Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:  Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all.  For God will bring every work into judgement, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.”  Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
