BULLSEYE

When we play a game of darts

We aim for the bullseye,

And focus on this target

Each and every time.

But it’s very difficult to attain

And to actually obtain same,

Regardless of how hard we try

As we hardly win the game.

Many times it’s like a blindfold

That will cover the eye indeed,

As we aim amiss and aimlessly

When we cannot clearly see.

Because this bullseye is perfection

And in reality we’re not,

And irrespective of our diligence

It’s so hard to hit this spot.

Similarly we cannot be too loving

And we can never be too kind,

Or even much too giving

And in certain areas are blind.

We fall short in many ways

Although it grieves us when we do,

And cry to the Lord as we repent

So we can be renewed.

Perfection is our goal

To press into holiness,

To live a life of purity;

To do what we know is best.

Because it’s the inner court

Where our heart should aim to be,

Near the Holy of Holies

Of God’s pure sanctuary.

Maturity is the aim

As we grow in love and grace,

So we run to win the race

And not in second place.

The game of darts is challenging

And we so desperately want to win,

To obtain the bullseye every time

When we’re delivered from our sin.

That spot is so significant

Because it’s the centre piece,

It’s where skill and patience is combined

So we do not go amiss.

It’s like the narrow gate

When we’re focused and on track,

As we win eternal life

And where we never will look back.

Our arrows are significant

When our armor we do wear,

And we hit the bullseye every time

When we’re focused and aware.

Because our enemy will throw his darts

To destroy and to kill,

Let’s be vigilant and awake indeed

So our mission we fulfil.

“But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.’”  1 Peter 1:15-16

“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.  Therefore, let us, as many as are mature, have this mind.”  Philippians 3:14-15

“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”  Ephesians 6:11

“How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”  Hebrews 9:14

“We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.”  Hebrews 8:1-2

“Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”  Hebrews 12:1-2

POOR BUT RICH

There is a distinction

Between God’s ways and society,

And depending which one we love

Will determine how we see.

Society places much emphasis

On the externals and career,

Whereas God looks upon the heart

And whether His ways we hold so dear.

Because what society considers as rich

Is not in God’s equation,

Because the richness of God dwells from within

And is filled with faith and patience.

Society makes us feel insecure

With the promotion of beauty indeed,

And it can instil covetousness as well

Coupled with much greed.

The flesh is slowly fading

And will return to dust,

Along with all the vanity

And the forbidden lusts.

But the one who focuses on the Spirit

Will reap the desired reward;

Much peace and joy with eternal life

When Jesus becomes our Lord.

The sparkling riches belong to the soul

Where grace and mercy abide,

When love and peace make their abode

With a joy that lives inside.

But when it’s the motive of the heart

To be seen in our giving ways,

There will be no true reward from God

When any form of pride remains.

There is one rich but is so poor

When focused on material things,

With the false promises and the empty deceit

And the heartache this so brings.

Because riches make themselves wings

And certainly fly away indeed,

But the riches that God places within

Will be well-nurtured living seeds.

Because there is one poor but is rich indeed

When God’s ways are a priority,

The poor in spirit who acknowledge that

It’s only through Jesus Christ we’re free.

“There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing; and one who makes himself poor, yet has great riches.”  Proverbs 13:7

“For the Lord does not see as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”  1 Samuel 16:7

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”  Matthew 5:3

“Will you set your eyes on that which is not?  For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away like an eagle toward heaven.”  Proverbs 23:5

“But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.”  Matthew 6:3-4

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.”  Romans 8:5

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”  Romans 8:1-2

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.” 2 Corinthians 8:9

BEHIND THE SCENES

It’s always behind the scenes

Where our strength is renewed;

On wings like eagles to be mounted

With a new perspective and a view.

It’s where everything it happens

Deep in the chamber of our heart;

It’s where seeds are planted and nourished

To foster a new start.

It’s behind the scenes

Where God works in our heart and soul;

In truly miraculous ways

In mysterious ways to uphold.

It’s behind the precious scenes

Where a baby is knitted together;

Safely nestled in the mother’s womb

With a blueprint that lasts forever.

It’s behind the scenes

Where hearts are knitted together;

To make a holy commitment

That will bind two hearts forever.

It’s beneath the scenes that seeds are planted

Where a forest will be grown;

A harvest indeed where birds can nest

And with every fruit we’ve known.

Behind the scenes there’s power

As the caterpillar becomes a butterfly;

It’s where the old it fades and all is renewed

Where new beginnings will abide.

It’s behind the scenes in a manger

Where our Savior was gently placed,

And visited by the three wise men

With gifts and blessings interlaced.

Behind the scenes in the wilderness

By evil our Jesus was tempted,

But the Lord stood firm and quoted scripture

When several times the devil attempted.

It’s behind the scenes

In the realm invisible,

Where His love is deposited

Where we can remain calm and still.

It’s behind that curtain

Where the sweat and tears remain;

It’s where God prepares us

So we’re never truly the same.

It’s the struggles, the pain and frustration

All behind the scenes;

It’s when doubt, fear and anxiety

Will try to rob our treasured dreams.

God works behind the scenes

When we’re used as mere vessels,

And moved when prompted in obedience

When our faith is safely nestled.

The stage is being set

And the curtain is to fade;

The spotlight is on His children

But will He find faith that remains?

The preparation room

Is always behind the scenes,

Where the battle is enraged

And where the fire makes all pristine.

Embrace our time behind the scenes

It is precious and valuable,

As it chisels our character in numerous ways

So our heart and soul become full.

Behind the scenes also lies corruption

By those who practice a lie,

But God Almighty in His control

Will bring to light all that’s disguised.

Behind the scenes God knocks on our heart

So we can dine with Him,

As we feast on all His promises

Where reconciliation this will bring.

(C) P.B. 2020

“For You formed my inward parts, You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.” Psalm 139:13-14

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties, and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24

“Lord I cry out to You; Make haste to me! Give ear to my voice when I cry out to You.” Psalm 141:1

“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'” Matthew 4:4

“Then Jesus said to him, ‘Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.'” Matthew 4:10

“Then He said, ‘What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and put in his garden; and it grew and became a large tree and the birds of the air nested in its branches.'” Luke 13:18-19

CONTROL

How many times have we tried to control

Only to lose the battle instead?

Because there’s a warfare that is invisible

And in the spirit realm it’s led.

How many times have we panicked

When things don’t go our way,

Where our control is relinquished

And we no longer have a say?

When we try to control our world

All it takes is a crisis,

Or an unforeseen circumstance

Where situations go amiss.

To want to be in control

Is like a house built on the sand,

When it releases traits of intimidation

And manipulation on demand.

When control is hungry for power

It will be insatiable indeed,

And will inflict pain and much distress

Where oppression we will see.

Jezebel was controlling

And covered with greed and intimidation;

Harboring an assortment of cobwebs within

Filled with much manipulation.

To want to control in order to keep

Is like sand in a sieve,

Because eventually it can disappear

And much heartache it will give.

When control is coupled with anger

It’s debilitating indeed,

Because it tears apart and brings much chaos

With its unwholesome words and deeds.

But to keep things under control

So there’s order and there’s peace,

Is sensible when it’s done with love

And where respect will be released.

And when we control our spirit

With meekness and respect,

There’s a dignity that is released

Where we are truly loved and blessed.

Let’s pray whether it’s in God’s sovereign will

And truly let it go,

And if He wants us to keep or to receive

In our heart and soul we’ll know.

When we give it all to the Lord

We know it’s in the safest hands,

Because either way it will bring Him glory

Where His will we understand.

Although God is in total control

It’s His will that none will perish,

But that all come to repentance

And by His Spirit are replenished.

LIFE

Why do we exist today

In a world full of confusion;

Where every mind it battles thoughts

Which some end in delusion?

And how did all of life begin

From a seed into a flower?

The cells and structure so complete

Full of wisdom made with power.

The mind deceived to believe

That mankind came from apes;

Our conscience so intense it knows

This theory our soul it rapes.

We are too occupied to discover

The truth of our existence;

The heart so full of stubborn pride

To the truth it is resistant.

To remove the veil from our eyes

Can be so difficult a task,

As our attitudes need to be refined

As our face is covered with mask.

How long can we pretend to be

Good people who dwell forever;

Who take our own path in life

And with God our ties we sever?

How does the soul discover why

This void always remains:

That deep set hole inside the heart

For truth it cries in pain?

And how does love so deep and true

Exist within the soul?

The peace we find so full of joy

As the mystery is told…

Forget the vanities of this life

As all are fleeting pleasures,

This stress to have material gain

To spend on abundant leisures.

Search deeper in your heart to find

The answer in your core,

As it guides you and directs you to

Its creator who shows you more.

Let’s stop to think and meditate

On our simple purpose indeed;

To enjoy true fulfilling fellowship

With our creator whom we all need.

He gave His only Son to us

To die for all our sins;

He exhibited His love so true

To save our soul within.

This man is Jesus Christ our Lord

Who eradicates all confusion,

To reconcile us back to God

Through faith the true conclusion.

And this is why we all exist

To choose Christ and live forever,

As He receives our eternal soul

Redeemed with love forever.

(C) P.B. 2002

“He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.” John 5:12

NEVER RETURNS VOID

Like a refreshing fountain

Is the word of the Lord,

And like snow that waters the precious earth;

Never void will return His word.

It is prosperous in all its ways

And specific tasks it will accomplish;

It is pure and inspiring

And enveloped with much bliss.

It will never return void

Because once the gospel is heard,

It will either soften or will harden the heart

Through God’s Spirit in His word.

When the seed is sown,

On the heart’s soil it will depend,

And whether the birds come to devour same

Or whether a good crop it will tend.

When the seed falls on good soil

Much joy and peace is found,

Where the trees will clap their hands

And where hills break forth in sound.

God’s word is everlasting

And will accomplish many things,

Where miracles and healings

Restoration it will bring.

Instead of thorns there will surely be

An assortment of all trees,

With an abundance of all delicious fruit

Where prosperity we see.

’For as the heavens are higher than the earth’

So are God’s delightful thoughts,

So precious and refreshing

When they are sincerely taught.

(C) P.B. 2021

“Behold, a sower went out to sow.  And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them…but others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”  Matthew 13:3-8

“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.”  Matthew 4:23

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”  Isaiah 55:9

“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the things for which I sent it.”  Isaiah 55:10-11

“For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”  Isaiah 55:12

“Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”  Isaiah 55:13

“But to you who fear My name the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings.”  Malachi 4:2

“In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month.  The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.”  Revelation 22:2

ONLY THE GOSPEL

It’s fundamental and foundational

And its where good seed is sown;

It’s life-changing and transformational

And where faith and love is grown.

It’s the only piece of literature

That can save our soul within,

Because faith will come by hearing

With the hope and life it brings.

The gospel of our Jesus Christ

Is so simple and pure indeed,

That He died for our sins and rose again

So eternal life we see.

Once this seed is planted

In our heart it should bring change,

As it transforms and it renews our mind

Where doubts no longer will remain.

Only the gospel has the power

To reconcile us to the Lord,

Because it’s God love letter to us all;

It’s His inspired word.

The gospel melts the hardest heart;

Humbles the proudest of them all,

Because it refreshes the soul with plenty of hope

When our name the Lord will call.

Many books will inform us

But only the bible can transform,

Because it’s God’s healing touch upon our soul

As it corrects, instructs and warns.

Plenty of music can calm our soul

But it’s the gospel songs that absorb,

To bring a sweet smelling aroma to our heart

When we listen to God’s word.

There are many sources that do inspire

Whether they’re written or in songs,

But it’s the gospel that will pierce the heart

With what we’ve needed all along.

Only the gospel will satisfy

The insatiable hunger within,

Because it fills our soul with the required peace

That only Christ’s sacrifice can bring.

It’s reassuring and bridges the gap

Between us and the Heavenly Father,

It inspires us to walk the walk

Knowing there is a here-after.

Only the gospel will save our soul

Because it was the cross at Calvary,

That reconciles us to the Father

So eternal life we see.

(C) P.B. 2021

“For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”  1 Corinthians 15:3-4

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.  But I say, have they not heard?  Yes indeed:  ‘Their sound has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.’”  Romans 10:17-18

“O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?  This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?”  Galatians 3:1-2

“All Scriptures is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”  2 Timothy 3:16

SUDDENLY!

When most things happen suddenly

There was a preparation taking place,

Behind the scenes and out of sight

Where no detail went to waste.

When a seed is planted in the heart

And thus comes to fruition,

It’s been watered and is nurtured

And will then complete its mission.

When we flourish suddenly

It’s not by luck or chance,

But due to background preparation

And not by happenstance.

It’s the sacrifice and tears

With the sweat and all the pain,

And those dreary and dull moments

Where not much hope will remain.

But it’s necessary to endure

Knowing there’s a reward in store,

For our faithfulness and perseverance

When we give a little more.

When Solomon built the temple

Preparation was not on site,

Since the stone was finished at the quarry;

T’was such an important plight.

So when suddenly the temple was built

It was indeed a masterpiece,

Where preparation was behind the scenes

Where much labor did not cease.

When Nehemiah rebuilt the wall

In fifty two days it was finished,

And his enemies were disheartened

Knowing by God’s help it was accomplished.

When machinery will finally work

It’s only due to the solemn fact,

That pieces were assembled separately

Before they were intact.

When suddenly there’s calamity

There was a plan prior to same,

Constructed in the heart and mind

And to destroy was its end game.

A divorce doesn’t happen overnight

But contemplated in the heart,

Many years prior to its execution

Before they’re suddenly torn apart.

The sudden pain and confusion

Is disheartening indeed,

But it was cultivated and watered within

And began with just a seed.

When our life and circumstances

Become a monotonous routine,

There’s a work being conducted behind the scenes

But one we cannot see.

When God prepares the soil

And will knit two hearts together,

And suddenly for His glory

We shall honour Him forever!

Suddenly when Christ returns

It will not be a surprise,

To those who have prepared their heart

And look forward to the prize.

(C) P.B. 2021

“Solomon had seventy thousand who carried burdens, and eighty thousand who quarried stone in the mountains.”  1 Kings 5:15

“And the king commanded them to quarry large stones, costly stones, and hewn stones, to lay the foundation of the temple.”  1 Kings 5:17

“And the temple, when it was being built, was built with stone finished at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built.”  1 Kings 6:7

“So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of Elul, in fifty-two days.  And it happened, when all our enemies heard of it, and all the nations around us saw these things, that they were very disheartened in their own eyes; for they perceived that this work was done by our God.”  Nehemiah 6:15-16

“And this will be the sign to you:  You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:  ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill towards men!’”  Luke 2:12-14

“By your patience possess your souls.”  Luke 21:19

“But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.  For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth.  Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”  Luke 21:34-36

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.”  Ephesians 6:14-15

WHETHER OR NOT

Whether or not we believe in God

Will not change the fact He’s true,

Because our opinions are only temporary

Compared to His eternal truth.

Whether or not we choose to obey

Is a decision we need to make,

Because at the end of the day God never forces

Anyone their cross to take.

Whether or not we love Him

Will be determined by our faith,

And the works that result from it

That lead us through the narrow gate.

Whether or not we’re at war with our sin

Will be eventually revealed,

Because unless we experience the new birth

Our eternal life cannot be sealed.

Whether or not we are saved

Will depend on Jesus Christ,

And whether we received Him as Lord and Savior

And have come into the light.

Whether or not we believe Him

Will not change the truth and fact,

That He’s real, alive and will return one day

Where His promises never lack.

Whether we choose to trust man instead

With all philosophies and ideologies,

Will still not change the eternal fact

That God is who He says He is.

Whether or not we believe

That the bible is God’s inspired word,

Does not change the reality

That Jesus Christ is Lord.

Because whether or not we simply believe

Won’t alter the truth either way,

Because He’s the King of kings and Lord of lords

And forever this fact remains.

(C) P.B. 2021

A FOUNTAIN FOR THE SOUL

There is a fountain for our soul;

A refreshing flow and spring,

Like rivers of living water

To nourish and to cleanse within.

It’s renewing and so pure

That invites the new man in,

And sweeps away the cobwebs

Of our old nature within.

The fountain for our soul

Will lead to pastures green,

When the hand of God will come to cleanse

To instil peace so serene.

A fountain is inviting

With a promise and a hope,

And a beauty that’s inspiring

With creativity and scope.

It’s a sweet smelling aroma

And its waters they do dance,

To the rhythm of our heartbeat

And so dainty as they prance.

The calming nature of a fount

Will draw the eye to see,

The refreshing waters filled with life

And where the ear wants to be.

It’s soothing and so precious

With a warmth that’s rare and true;

The fountain with new beginnings

With a steadfast promise too.

It’s effervescent and inviting

And it washes and it cleans,

All stains of dirt and rubble

Whilst being a delightful scene.

The embellishment is flowers

And arrayed with all their glory;

They’re a masterpiece to behold

That each create a unique story.

The fount overflows with forgiveness

Pure and unadulterated too,

The river of living water from God

That is pristine and is true.

But when the fount is off

Much mould it can amount,

Because stagnant waters are unclean

When they are not stirred around.

It was the fountain at the cross

Where Christ’s blood was spilled indeed;

The fount that cleanses our soul within

So God’s wrath we do not see.
