TAKE UP OUR CROSS -v-PICK UP OUR TOOTHPICK

When the ear is dull of hearing
And self consumed with our own ways,
The word of God is compromised
Where deception may remain.

It took three nails and a cross
To crucify our evil deeds;
To remove the tares of doubt
And all wicked types of seeds.

To take up our cross
Requires sweat and humility,
As opposed to picking up a toothpick
Where light labor may be seen.

The toothpick clears debris
From leftovers in the teeth,
But the cross ensures victory
That is wholesome and complete.

The toothpick is like a splinter –
May be sore but once removed,
We’re back to our old ways
Where not much has been improved.

The toothpick is consumed
Where celebrations do exist,
But the cross requires sacrifice
And reconciliation in our midst.

And the cross demands a change;
It commands that we forgive,
And to confront the situations;
To choose life so we may live.

When Jesus carried His cross
It was for us – God’s enemies,
To reconcile us to the Father
So eternal life we see.

We have two pieces from wood
But so different in many ways,
Let’s ensure the cross is taken
Where God’s mercy will remain.

“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” Matthew 16:24

“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew 6:14-15

“For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matthew 16:25-26

“For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” Romans 5:10

IT’S WHAT WE LOSE

Our focus is always on what we gain
And how we can have much better,
But what’s the point in obtaining more
When in the end it will not matter?

What’s the point in having so much more
With bigger and grander things,
If it comes with associated tension and stress
With many frustrations this brings?

It’s the spiritual realm that is rich indeed
When in Christ we make our abode,
As He takes our yoke and our burdens too
And all our heavy load.

Because in Christ we actually win
When many attributes we lose,
That were once laden with anxieties
And many faulty views.

He washes all our transgressions
When we simply do repent;
He replaces our stony heart
With a heart of flesh that is sent.

We lose our issues of anger
Along with embedded hate;
We forgive others as God has forgiven
And walk in our brand new state.

We lose our incorrect image
Of who we believed to be,
And gain a new identity in Christ
With a true reality.

We lose friends we thought were real
But it’s now the truth is revealed,
And gain a new family
Whose souls are eternally sealed.

So we actually gain so much more
Along with eternal life,
And as we leave the miry clay behind
We thank God through Jesus Christ.

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26

“He has brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.” Psalm 40:2

“Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him,” Philippians 3:8-9

“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew 6:14-15

ONE DAY AT A TIME

One day at a time
As we’re grateful for every breath,
And where our faith is firmly anchored
During trials and our tests.

One day at a time
As we continue to trust in Him,
Our dear Lord and Savior Jesus
Who saves our soul within.

One day at a time
And although the pain may stay,
We are held tightly in God’s palm
Where His sovereignty remains.

Because one day at a time
Is where our focus it should be,
Since we do not know the moment
We will step into eternity.

Like a leaf we all will fade
But our spirit will live on,
And it’s important that we’re ready
And to Jesus we belong.

One day at a time
As we grow in love and peace,
And forgive from the heart
Where our burdens are released.

One day at a time
As we repent from our heart,
And believe in God’s promises
That won’t keep Him and us apart.

And one day at a time;
In God’s love and grace we stand,
And upheld by His mercy
And safely nestled in His hand.

Because it took that one day
When Jesus was crucified on the cross,
For those who will believe
When He rose and paid the cost.

“All flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers and its flower falls away, but the word of the LORD endures forever.” 1 Peter 1:24

“We all fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” Isaiah 64:6

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:34

“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew 6:14-15

“For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” Hebrews 13:5

“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:13-14
