FEAR NOT

It is False Evidence Appearing Real

And it can truly grip the heart;

It is debilitating and destructive

And further anxieties it will spark.

It will destroy all common sense

And overtake your mind,

And envelop your heart and your emotions

It will leave true peace behind.

It is born from sheer darkness

Like a spider’s web and trap;

Will dissolve all clear thinking

And all rational thoughts it will overlap.

Although it’s something we all feel

Naturally in this fallen world,

We are not to allow it to take residence

And to feed it through deeds and words.

It is sheer madness on all accounts

When fear grips the soul;

It’s a plague and it’s a virus

That has the power to control.

It can become mass hysteria

As each looks out for his own,

Dismissing the true needs of others

From selfish seed it’s grown.

It is driven by propaganda

As a means to control,

As drastic action and dire measures

Are their motive and end goal.

The only one we are to fear

And to have respectful reverence for,

Is God Almighty through Jesus Christ

Whom we all should love and adore.

God will deliver us

From the grip of every fear,

When we trust in Him He will provide

And all our prayers He will hear.

(C) P.B. 2020

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

“You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.” Psalm 91:5-6

“Therefore, I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, nor about the body, what you will put on. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap..and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds?” Luke 12:23-24

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Psalm 111:10

GUIDANCE

When proper guidance is in place

It instructs the soul with wisdom;

It gently nurtures and encourages

Whilst maintaining a true freedom.

When we trust the Lord for guidance

There’s a lamp for our feet,

And a light to our every path

So we do not taste defeat.

When He guides us and directs us

We want to walk in righteousness;

Knowing that His will and plan for us

And His ways are always best.

When we’re guided by the light

We depart from all forms of evil;

We thirst for God and for His word

And reject temptations from the devil.

When we’re guided to help the poor

And when we truly guard our ways,

We become patient through many tests and trials

And learn to rejoice always.

God’s guidance is always priceless

And enriches our soul within,

As He corrects us and instructs us

When the temptation is to sin.

When we trust in His guidance

There’s no need to ever fear,

Since He’ll never leave us nor forsake us

As to His heart we’re very dear.

Let’s not be guided by soulish ways

Or man-made methods and schemes;

Let’s not be deceived by flattering words

Or to trust in visions and dreams.

If God reveals a vivid dream

For prophetic and biblical purpose…

Then all glory will ultimately go to Him

And all truth with rise to the surface.

Guidance is paramount indeed

And let’s ensure we’re properly fed,

And that love encompasses all we do

When we’re guided and Spirit led.

(C) P.B. 2020

“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.”  Psalm 42:1-2

“I waited patiently for the Lord, and He inclined to me, and heard my cry.” Psalm 40:1

“Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits, do not seek after them, to be defiled by them.”  Leviticus 19:31

GLORY

It is the beauty and excellence

Of a character with dignity…

It’s to admire and to praise

A worthy greatness we can see.

It’s an honor and distinction

Which draws our attention too;

It’s an infinite perfection

With integrity pure and true.

All glory goes to God Almighty

For His infinite worth and grace;

His timeless perfection and sheer greatness

With a love we’re to embrace.

All glory is seen in creation

So meticulous and perfect indeed;

It reveals the hand of our creator

When we open our eyes and take heed.

God’s glory is revealed in healing

When He sovereignly heals diseases,

And by faith we always pray and ask

Knowing He has mercy on whom He pleases.

When Jesus healed the sick

And performed many miracles too,

It was to reveal the Father’s glory

And HIs majestic power through and through.

When Lazarus was raised from the dead

It was not a sickness unto death,

But to reveal the glory of God

Through resurrection revealing God’s breadth.

When Jesus approached the blind man

Many questioned the man’s sin,

Or his parents’ for being born blind

Since the reason was not underpinned.

But Jesus made it very clear

That neither he nor his parents transgressed,

But that the works of God should be revealed in him

Showing God’s glory at His best.

The greatest revelation of glory

Was Jesus Christ’s resurrection,

And ascension to the right hand of the Father

Indicating His pure perfection.

We’re to be transformed from glory to glory

By the Spirit of the Lord;

When we’re reconciled to God indeed

And renewed by His word.

If we live and believe in Him

Although we’ll eventually face death,

We’ll be resurrected unto eternal life

To enjoy true peace and rest.

(C) P.B. 2020

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 3:18

“The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified.” John 12:23

“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26

“And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself with the glory which I had with You before the world was.” John 17:5

IN TIMES OF UNCERTAINTY

In times of uncertainty

The natural propensity is to fear,

And to doubt in any further provision

When troubled times are near.

But worrying will not add a cubit

Or change the circumstances,

But instead raise levels of anxiety

As the turmoil further advances.

Let’s encourage each other in faith

And to trust that hard times will pass,

And in the meantime to show kindness

And sow encouraging seeds that last.

It’s an opportunity to show we care

Without the panic and fear;

It’s to use wisdom and to be thrifty

And in calm waters we should steer.

It’s never easy but life never is

But there’s always room for hope;

There’s an opportunity to show our love

And to help those who cannot cope.

In times of uncertainty

There’s really only One who can assist;

It’s God Almighty as He guides our ways

It’s where faith and hope will kiss.

He will always provide our needs

When we trust in His plan,

And although we suffer in different ways

A change of character this demands.

Sometimes we become too comfortable

And forget to acknowledge Him,

And when circumstances are rosy

Our soul can become spiritually dim.

Whoever has cried out to the Lord

Has never been disappointed,

Since it’s the humble cry acknowledging a need

And hence resources are always appointed.

Troubling times can bring out the best

But also the very worst,

But we choose which master we will follow…

Let’s put faith, hope and love first.

(C) P.B. 2020

“Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” Matthew 6:27

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

“When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you.” Proverbs 2:10-11

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1

“He shall call upon Me and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.” Psalm 91:15-16

WISDOM

Wisdom is knowing when to act

With knowledge through experience…

It’s an understanding that is compassionate

With the ability of discernment.

Wisdom guides us to guard our tongue

Since it’s not always suitable,

To unleash our every feeling and thought

To travel the road of fools.

Let’s not place reliance on people

Since they can easily disappoint,

As most things are conditional

And to selfish motives most times it points.

Don’t be envious of the ‘great’

Since there’s always a price to pay;

Be humble and appreciate simplicity

So peace will surround your days.

Better to associate with the humble

As the rich can drag you to court,

Since the humble most times are God-fearing

Whilst the rich towards mammon resort.

When we desire others’ lifestyles

We forget our blessings bestowed,

And become jealous and maybe bitter

Where a foothold for satan we’ve allowed.

Don’t desire what the rich have

Since we simply do not know,

The sacrifices they had to make

And important things they did let go.

Because the spirit of covetousness

Is a disease in society;

It will feed your fleshly desires

To be someone whom you pretend to be.

Appreciate your spouse

They will love you like no other;

Don’t be bewitched to believe

The grass is greener with another lover.

Because the lover will strip your dignity

Whilst destroying your household too;

Making promises devoid of integrity

And cause heartache for those around you.

When you’re truly happy and joyful

Be wise as to whom you confess,

Since not everyone will rejoice with you

And some may even detest.

But God has a way of exposing

The hidden condition of the soul,

But it’s to set free and to liberate

So new desires can unfold.

The real condition of the heart

Is always exposed under fire,

And all the greed, lust and corruption

Will reveal every desire.

There’s a reason Jesus was humble

Although He could have displayed showmanship,

But God’s wisdom reveals HIs true character

In humility where all pride is dismissed.

(C) P.B. 2020

“Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Exalt her and she will promote you. She will bring you honor when you embrace her.” Proverbs 8:7-8

“I, wisdom dwell with prudence and find out knowledge and discretion.” Proverbs 8:12

“When wisdom enters your heart and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, discretion will preserve you, understanding will keep you.” Proverbs 2:10-11

“The rich man is wise in his own eyes but the poor who has understanding searches him out.” Proverbs 28:11

“Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly than to divide the spoil with the proud.” Proverbs 16:18-19

“Do not set your mind on high things but associate with the humble.” Romans 12:16

“Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into the courts?” James 2:6

“And rejoice with the wife of your youth…and always be enraptured with her love. For why should you, my son, be enraptured by an immoral woman, and be embraced in the arms of a seductress?” Proverbs 5:18-20

POOR YET RICH

There are things that make us rich

But simultaneously make us poor;

It’s where we increase our materialism

But we’re spiritually bankrupt to the core.

Although many are poor indeed

Their souls can be rich with kindness,

And when they look out for the needs of others

They won’t suffer from spiritual blindness.

There are those who barely make ends meet

But their love is overwhelming,

And when they do receive they’re quick to give

And their focus much joy it brings.

To be rich in love is everything

Particularly when doubts starve to death,

And our faith is increased abundantly

Where there’s no room for regrets.

When kindness reveals its richness

It is something we never forget,

As it overflows our heart with joy

It’s where love and goodness have met.

When faith reveals its golden ways

It reassures the soul with hope,

As its dividends create wealth indeed

With a comforting peace that copes.

The only time we should be poor in spirit

Is when we acknowledge our need for the Lord,

As we humbly repent and change our ways

And be renewed by His word.

If we’re financially rich we should give to the poor

And ask God where to distribute;

When we’re led by His Spirit there is much fruit

Leaving a legacy and a tribute.

God’s grace and love is rich in spirit

And His eternal rewards are great,

When we acknowledge we’re poor we become rich in Him

And His mercy is never late.

Jesus’ focus was on souls

Not on material things,

But He was rich beyond comprehension

With much spiritual fruit this brings.

(C) P.B. 2020

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.”  2 Corinthians 8:9

“There is one who makes himself rich yet has nothing, and one who makes himself poor yet has great riches.” Proverbs 13:7

“As it is written ‘He who gathered much had nothing left over and he who gathered little had no lack.'” 2 Corinthians 8:15

“that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality.” 2 Corinthians 8:2

“Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:3

BACK TO BASICS

There’s a beauty in simplicity

When we’re content with all our blessings,

And to appreciate their intrinsic value

That can teach us many lessons.

We should never be ashamed

To live a simple and humble life,

When we’re thrifty yet considerate

But where our burdens are kept light.

It’s to put our loved ones first

Rather than to impress those who don’t care;

It’s to shift our mindset from selfish ways

And from entanglements and tares.

As society keeps changing

With all technological advances,

There’s no need to increase our desires

Where covetousness most times this enhances.

There’s no need to desire what others do

Or to follow the peer pressure,

Since the spiritually blind will lead the blind

With consequences beyond measure.

There’s no need to maintain an image

Where our name can be lifted up,

Since our ego and our prideful ways

Most times will never be enough.

Since the carnal nature is never satisfied

And it simply never will be,

Unless it appreciates the beauty of basics

Where with a simple heart it sees.

Let’s inspire one another

To appreciate the beauty in simplicity,

Where we halt to absorb the smell of a rose

And where God’s creation we clearly see.

It’s an opportune time as well

To discover the wonders of natural aids,

And their effective use in health and beauty

With an authenticity that will stay.

When we’re content with all we have

There’s no need for competition,

Since when we’re happy we’re happy to give

As we’re on a special mission.

It’s the attitude of the heart

That will lead us back to basics,

As we stop to focus on important issues

Rather than caught up in this matrix.

(C) P.B. 2020

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all this is in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it, but he who does the will of God abides forever.” 1 John 2:15-17

“that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business..” 1 Thessalonians 4:11

“For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18

BACK TO NORMAL

What constitutes normality

And by what standards does it exist?

Is it simply familiarity

Or does it entail a formal list?

Because ‘normal’ to one is simply not to another

Since the lenses through whom we see,

Paint a different picture with a differing perspective

According to whom we choose to be.

To be normal is to conform to a type

A regular pattern with a standard;

A natural way of observation

A typical way of being branded.

But normality can be construed

Or misused through ideologies;

Particularly once laws are enacted

So through mainstream eyes we see.

It’s not normal to be greedy

Or to hate and envy too;

It’s not normal to be selfish

Or to covet what others do.

It’s not normal to hoard possessions

Whilst our neighbour cries in pain;

It’s not normal to close our ears

Whilst the poor and needy complain.

It’s not normal to live a hurried life

Or absorbed to be entertained;

It’s not normal to abuse the environment

Or where resources are drained.

So when we speak of ‘normal’

What does it really constitute?

Since there are differing opinions

And ones we must refute.

To be normal is to love our neighbour

And to not harm in any way;

It’s to respect our family members

Where parental honor will remain.

To be normal is to care

To extend a loving hand;

With a gentleness and goodness

That every language understands.

It’s to love God with our heart

And to trust in His plan;

To revere His holy word

And to follow His commands.

Back to normal needs to change its face

And all that it was accustomed to,

With renewed morals and timeless values

And a new heart in all we do.

(C) P.B. 2020

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your might, and your neighbour as yourself.” Luke 10:27

“If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself’ you do well.” James 2:8

BEHIND THE SCENES

It’s always behind the scenes

Where our strength is renewed;

On wings like eagles to be mounted

With a new perspective and a view.

It’s where everything it happens

Deep in the chamber of our heart;

It’s where seeds are planted and nourished

To foster a new start.

It’s behind the scenes

Where God works in our heart and soul,

In truly miraculous ways;

In mysterious ways to uphold.

It’s behind the precious scenes

Where a baby is knitted together;

Safely nestled in the mother’s womb

With a blueprint that lasts forever.

It’s behind the scenes

Where hearts are knitted together;

To make a holy commitment

That will bind two hearts forever.

It’s beneath the scenes that seeds are planted

Where a forest will be grown…

A harvest indeed where birds can nest

And with every fruit we’ve known.

Behind the scenes there’s power

As the caterpillar becomes a butterfly;

It’s where the old it fades and all is renewed

Where new beginnings will abide.

It’s behind the scenes in a manger

Where our Savior was gently placed,

And visited by the three wise men

With gifts and blessings interlaced.

Behind the scenes in the wilderness

By evil our Jesus was tempted,

But the Lord stood firm and quoted scripture

When several times the devil attempted.

It’s behind the scenes

In the realm invisible,

Where His love is deposited

Where we can remain calm and still.

It’s behind that curtain

Where the sweat and tears remain;

It’s where God prepares us

So we’re never truly the same.

It’s the struggles, the pain and frustration

All behind the scenes…

It’s when doubt, fear and anxiety

Will try to rob our treasured dreams.

God works behind the scenes

When we’re used as mere vessels,

And moved when prompted in obedience

When our faith is safely nestled.

The stage is being set

And the curtain is to fade;

The spotlight is on His children

But will He find faith that remains?

The preparation room

Is always behind the scenes;

Where the battle is enraged

And where the fire makes all pristine.

Embrace our time behind the scenes

It is precious and valuable,

As it chisels our character in numerous ways

So our heart and soul become full.

Behind the scenes also lies corruption

By those who practice a lie,

But God Almighty in His control

Will bring to light all that’s disguised.

Behind the scenes God knocks on our heart

So we can dine with Him,

As we feast on all His promises

Where reconciliation this will bring.

(C) P.B. 2020

“Lord I cry out to You; Make haste to me! Give ear to my voice when I cry out to You.” Psalm 141:1

“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'” Matthew 4:4

“Then Jesus said to him, ‘Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.'” Matthew 4:10

“Then He said, ‘What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and put in his garden; and it grew and became a large tree and the birds of the air nested in its branches.'” Luke 13:18-19

HELP IN TIME OF NEED

Our help in time of need

Is effectively dispatched by the Lord;

Where seemingly impossible situations

Are miraculously restored.

Do we believe that God hears us

When our petitions are sent to Him?

Or do we doubt and wonder if He’s real

When our cup is filled to the brim?

As our head rests on our pillow

Do we ponder the meaning of life?

Are we in wonder and awe or are we frightened

In case there is an after-life?

Do we lie awake at night

And think about the injustice?

Or are we content with our lot in life

Where peace and joy is in our midst?

Do we have a void inside

And wonder what life is about?

Are we overwhelmed with situations

With feelings of self-pity and doubt?

As we implode with our frustrations

We can easily blame God indeed,

But it’s wiser to cry out for mercy

So He can truly intercede.

It’s normal to have doubt and fear

But abnormal to dwell with same,

Since we’re given the faith and the hope

So these strongholds do not remain.

Fear is debilitating

Along with unbelief,

And unless we use the tools God provides

We’ll never find true relief.

God is truly our best friend

Our comforter, rock and refuge,

But we forfeit His blessings and His promises

When our stubborn hearts refuse.

When biblical truth is rejected

We naturally turn to philosophies,

Or religions based on good deeds and merit

So our conscience can be appeased.

But our pride levels are dangerous

And we’re truly unaware of same,

When we pretend that all is merry

When from biblical truths we refrain.

God adores us and gave us Christ

To appease His wrathful way,

And the fact that Jesus died a horrific death

Shows the extent of the price that was paid.

God listens to our prayers;

Our supplications and to our pain,

And although sometimes it appears He doesn’t

The facts will still remain.

Only a holy God can eradicate our sins

And it’s something we desperately need,

As our soul requires a regeneration

Where only God can intercede.

Let’s rejoice that He’s a loving Father

And let’s surrender all to Him,

And exercise our spiritual muscles

With all the promises this brings.

(C) P.B. 2020
