THE BETRAYAL

When we hear the word ‘Betrayal’

The first thing that may enter our mind,

Is the price of thirty pieces of silver

And the kiss that identified the Christ.

Judas was a pretender

But appeared to be genuine and true,

Since afterall he walked with Jesus

And His teachings he’d hear too.

Judas knew that Christ was pure

But the idols lurking inside his heart,

Led to a selfish love and desire for money

And that’s where his problems they did start.

Because for thirty pieces of perishable coins

He betrayed the author of life,

But his regrets they came all too late

As his soul was filled with condemnable strife.

His ending didn’t end well at all

And so tragic in many ways,

Because when we bow down to all the wrong choices

Much heartache does remain.

When our deepest desire is to store

Much treasure on this earth,

Or where pleasures become paramount

It’s where deception will be birthed.

Better are faithful wounds than kisses

When the motive is sincere,

Because there’s nothing worse than feigned affection

Or where we swallow everything we hear.

Judas should be our warning

That when mammon is placed before the Lord,

Eventually the circumstances will unfold

To reveal what in our heart is stored.

We all have betrayed God

In one way or another,

By not loving Him with all our heart

And at times not sincerely loving each other.

We cannot serve God and mammon

Since they’re opposites indeed,

And the tighter the grip on money or things

The fewer blessings from God we’ll see.

Thank God for Jesus’ sacrifice

That paid the price for all our sins,

As we appreciate the profound intercession

When we sincerely trust in Him.

“Now His betrayer had given them a sign, saying, ‘Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him.  Immediately he went up to Jesus and said, ‘Greetings, Rabbi!’ And kissed Him.’”  Matthew 26:48-49

“Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying, ‘I have sinned by betraying innocent blood’…then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself.”  Matthew 27:3-5

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”  Matthew 6:19-21

“Hell and Destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.”  Proverbs 27:20

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and mammon.”  Matthew 6:24

“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”  Hebrews 12:2

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:” John 1:12

THE DIFFERENCE

The way we see the world

Will determine our position,

As to what is important and or sacred

And accordingly make decisions.

If we believe that God has created

Everything that carries breath,

Then we see the richness of His grand creation

And where our lives won’t end at death.

But if we believe in evolution

And where there’s no eternal life at all,

We’ll maintain the position that when we die

We occupy that six foot hole.

Because if there’s no accountability

Towards the pure and holy Lord,

It’s when we believe that mankind came from apes

And where God’s judgement won’t be poured.

But if we believe that God has created

And there’s a purpose for everything,

Then the depth and beauty of His love

Much joy and peace will bring.

But if we believe that we came from apes

Then why do they still exist?

Shouldn’t they have been long forgotten

Or merely made extinct?

Many questions may occupy

Our heart and soul for sure,

Particularly the fact that evil exists

And whether God does care after all.

But it’s not God’s plan or in His heart

To harm or cause destruction,

But it’s our fallen nature that causes wars;

All derision and afflictions.

The soul that discovers the new birth

Will be inundated with love,

With peace and joy that kisses kindness

That emanate from above.

The difference is profound

And will determine our destiny,

As to whether we’ll be in God’s presence

Or apart from Him eternally.

Jesus hung on that wretched cross

To make a difference to our soul,

When His blood washed our transgressions

To give us eternal life behold!

“Truly my soul silently waits for God; from Him comes my salvation.”  Psalm 62:1

“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of heaven.’”  John 3:3

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood…”. Romans 3:23-25

“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us..”  Titus 2:11-14

“For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.”  Titus 3:3

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:  Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all.  For God will bring every work into judgement, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.”  Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

IT’S TOO EASY…

It’s too easy to believe in God

Since demons do and tremble too,

But it’s no indication of a saving faith

Or of a heart that’s been renewed.

It’s too easy to say we have faith

And that in God we really trust,

But it’s in our deepest valleys and darkest moments

That true faith becomes a must.

It’s too easy to portray ourselves

As appearing collected and positive,

In order to be strong for those around us

But where there’s turmoil in our midst.

And it’s too easy to conform

Or where surface conformity is revealed,

But the cognitive dissonance nagging our soul

Is a reminder we’re not being real.

It’s too easy to point the finger

And to judge the actions of anyone,

But those fingers need to reveal our planks;

Of what is hidden and is done.

It’s too easy to conform to the world

And in its self-centred sense of peace,

But unless the Father will forgive our sins

True peace is not released.

And we’ll look everywhere to be appeased

Whether it’s materialism or idols,

But that restlessness will continue to linger

Until we read and study the bible.

Only Jesus can give us lasting peace

Because only God has that authority,

And He calms our soul just like a weaned child

So genuine joy and peace we see.

And although it’s not easy to humble ourselves

Since our mindset has been cemented,

God is extending His loving arm as He draws

Our heart that is repentant.

It wasn’t easy for the Lord

To be willingly crucified,

But He saw our faces in eternity

As He hung in torment and then died.

But it was too easy for the Father

When His precious Son He did resurrect;

A profound moment indeed in history

And one we ought to never ever forget.

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”  Psalm 23:4

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”  John 14:27

“Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.”  Psalm 131:2

“That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”  1 Corinthians 15:3-4

WHEN WE ARE…

When we are hated on or spat at

But where our faith it preaches love,

We ought to know we are on the right path

Honouring the Lord our God above.

When we’re oppressed, cancelled or despised

Without any cause at all,

The Lord’s grace and protection will cover us

Whilst His enemies will fall.

Because to do what’s righteous in God’s eyes

Will invite much opposition,

Since the fallen nature of our carnal soul

Will naturally cause friction.

When we are deceived;

We believe all the opinions of man,

Where self-righteousness does reign

And where arrogance will stand.

When we are loved by the world

It’s because we are like them,

And no different at all whatsoever

Since there’s no reason to offend.

Because the cross of Christ is offensive;

It’s an enormous stumbling block,

To those who are perishing

And to those who are lost.

But when we are born again

We’ve come to realise our deepest need,

That our soul requires a Savior

And a Lord who intercedes.

And when we’re judged by man

It’s just an opinion anyway,

And not based on fact or truth at all

But where assumptions do remain.

When we are reliant on God

We ask and do receive,

According to His will and plan

Where He listens and intercedes.

When we are hated

For sharing the good news for God’s cause,

His justice does eventually prevail

According to His laws.

Jesus was a perfect man

But for no reason was despised;

He came to earth to save His own

And He was precious in God’s eyes.

Like a lamb to the slaughter;

Our Jesus walked the way,

In humility and meekness

In order for us to be saved.

When we are loved by God

It’s the most precious gift of all,

And the least we can do is to respond

When our name He calls.

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are mine.”  Isaiah 43:1

“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”  John 15:16

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”  Matthew 7:7

“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.  If you were of the world, the world would love its own.  Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”  John 15:18-19

“But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, ‘They hated Me without a cause.’”  John 15:25

“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”  John 17:3

WHEAT OR TARES?

There are two types of people

And can ever really be,

We’re either wheat or we are tares

As we enter eternity.

We all start off as tares

Since our fallen nature will dictate,

But when the Heavenly Father calls our name

Into ‘wheat’ we will be made.

Our fallen nature is rebellious

And for God we do not seek,

We stand tall and stand in arrogance

Instead of being humble, true and meek.

Tares are useless and are rebellious

But they appear genuine,

They look authentic and appear kind

But there’s discrepancies within.

Tares do look like wheat indeed

And it’s only at the harvest time,

Where the reaper will distinguish

As the wheat comes forth to shine.

It’s a petrifying thought

If we’re tares but do believe,

That we’ve been actual wheat all along

But thoroughly deceived.

Tares will appear to be

The real and genuine thing,

But God knows the depths of all our hearts

And the fruit that our soul brings.

The tares are thrown into the fire

Because there’s no use for them at all,

Since their sower was not the authentic master

And they rejected the Father’s call.

Tares are the most deceptive

Because they really profess to be,

The genuine thing, but surely are not

And clearly the very wrong type of seed.

And they cannot be uprooted

Since the wheat may follow suit,

But they grow together until harvest time

When the wheat reveals its fruit.

The angels are the reapers

And will deliver our precious soul,

To the seat of the Heavenly Father

Where we will give an account behold!

God have mercy on us all

As we sincerely do repent,

And thank God for Jesus’ sacrifice

When the Father’s love on earth was sent.

(C) P.B. 2022

“The kingdom of heaven is a like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but whilst men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way.  But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared.  So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field?  How then does it have tares?’  He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’  The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them.  Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, ‘First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.’”  Matthew 13:24-30

“The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is at the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.”  Matthew 13:39

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it?  I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.”  Jeremiah 17:9-10

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ…”. 2 Corinthians 5:10

“And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.”  2 Corinthians 11:14

TAKING THE HINT

When we try to complete a picture

We will need a hint or two,

And when we unscramble many words

We require certain clues.

Although the words are before our eyes

We simply cannot see,

Because unless there’s a revelation

We’re blindfolded as can be.

We take the hint when we discern

What the motive really is,

As we read between the lines indeed

So the truth we will not miss.

There’s wisdom in the many hints

Particularly pertaining to the Lord,

Because eternal life and our redemption

Is found inside His word.

Jesus spoke in parables

And the hint was always there;

It’s unfortunate they couldn’t see or hear

Since they really did not care.

Likewise, when Christians share the gospel

Their intentions are pure and true,

Because they sincerely point to the important fact;

Salvation for me and you.

We take the hint through body language

Whether one is interested or not,

In what we say or in what we convey

And thus we know just when to stop.

But the hints are always seeds

And when they take root in the heart,

They flourish through God’s grace

Where there’s growth with a new start.

Let’s take the hint and thus be saved

That Jesus died and rose for us,

To redeem our soul and be reconciled

To God the Father through the cross.

(C) P.B 2022

“For God is not the author of confusion but of peace…”. 1 Corinthians 14:33

“That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”  1 Corinthians 15:3-4

“Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.”  Matthew 13:13

“And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: ‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, and seeing you will see and not perceive; for the hearts of this people have grown dull.  Their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, so that I should heal them.’”  Matthew 13:14-15

“But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”  Matthew 13:16-17

“But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”  Matthew 13:23

WHEN WE QUIT THE FIGHT

When we try to run from God

We are actually deceiving ourselves,

Because there’s nowhere in the world we can hide

Since His omnipresence dwells.

When we ignore that nagging sensation;

The one deep in our soul,

We will keep ourselves fully occupied

And perhaps never reach any meaningful goals.

When we ignore our calling;

True rest and peace won’t dwell,

Because we’re deliberately avoiding the inevitable

And heartache this will spell.

It’s our stubbornness and our resistance

That become our stumbling blocks,

But God is knocking on the door of our heart

For true freedom to unlock.

Although He is in total control

He’s a gentleman through and through,

And will never force anyone to come

To eternal life and be renewed.

When we quit the fight

And we surrender unto Him,

We discover true life with joy and peace;

With satisfaction from within.

And then the real fight will occur;

The battle for our soul,

Since our spiritual enemy is furious indeed

Having lost his firm stronghold.

But God will help us to overcome

Since He’s faithful and loyal too,

And when we solely trust in His salvation

He will protect us with His truth.

The battle is won through humility

Covered with love and gentleness,

And with a repentant and a contrite heart

And where God’s Spirit manifests.

Jesus didn’t resist the cross

Because He knew His mission well,

As He humbly carried that wretched cross

To save our souls from hell.

“He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.”  Revelation 3:6

“Repent, and let every one of you be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the Holy Spirit.”  Acts 2:38

THE TRUTH WILL ALWAYS RISE

When the truth is being concealed

We are merely buying time,

Because it will always eventually resurrect

As it bursts forth when it will shine.

The truth is a well-nourished spring;

It’s a seed that cannot be buried,

Because it always needs to present itself

Since in integrity it’s carried.

The truth will always rise

Because no darkness will oppress,

The fruitful nature of all things true

Since it cannot be suppressed.

If we try to cover any lie

Then more lies will be required,

To justify the initial one

And in the meantime create fires.

The truth will always resurrect

Because its nature is filled with light;

It breaks strongholds and exposes the dark

And will always make things right.

The truth is in God’s forgiveness

Since His promises are true,

And if we confess our transgressions

He will make all things new.

The truth can never fall or collapse

Because its foundation is sure and steady,

Placed in the right hand of the Father

Where all truth cannot be buried.

What is truth? Asked Pilate

As the Truth stood before him,

But found no fault in the Anointed One

With no blame to underpin.

Jesus Christ is the epitome

Of purity and every truth,

And although He died and He was buried

His resurrection is living proof.

The grave could not contain our Christ

Because death had no grip on Him,

Since the truth will always resurrect

To overcome and win.

Hallelujah to the Risen King;

Victorious in every way,

Where all His suffering was never in vain

Securing our eternal days.

THE CRUCIFIED CHRIST

Our Jesus our sweet Savior
How Your body bore the pain,
To satisfy God’s wrath
So man’s sin cannot remain.

The crown of thorns it pierced
Your precious holy head,
To eradicate our evil thoughts
And the unfitly words we’ve said.

The nails driven in Your hands
This symbolised so much,
It crucified the things we do
Of unclean things we touch.

Your feet they felt the sting
As the nails were driven in,
To remove ungodly pleasures
Where our feet walk towards sin.

And the soldiers gave You vinegar
To quench Your very thirst;
To heal our wicked tongues
And all the bitter of outbursts.

The soldiers pierced Your side
Perhaps close to Your heart,
To spear our desires
Which keep God and us apart.

And Your blood had to be shed
To wash away transgressions;
To heal our broken souls
And to wipe all our pretensions.

And You rose after three days
As Your mission was complete,
You made our bodies whole
So we do not taste defeat.

Your resurrection speaks aloud
As we rise to life anew,
And dead to sin once and for all
To give glory back to You.

(C) P.B. 2011

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him and with His stripes we are healed.” Isaian 53:5

TEDDY BEARS

Our teddy bears in our childhood

Provided comfort and cuddles too,

And although they could not see or hear

We believed the bond was true.

Our real-life teddies are our dogs

And are inspiring as can be,

Because the life that is instilled in them

Reveals God’s glory that we see.

They are loving and compassionate

Without conditions and are true,

They warn us and protect us

And would lay their life down for us too.

They are gentle and are fluffy

And their sweetness it remains,

They are tender and so cuddly;

A dear blessing every day.

They are loyal and understanding

And when we cry from the heart,

They feel our pain and lick our tears;

They’re a remarkable work of art.

It’s the life inside that is from God

That makes them beautiful,

And our childhood teddies can never compare

To our dogs, so adorable.

They are authentic and so pure

And most look like teddy bears,

But they’re genuine, so clever and wise;

They’re the wheat among the tares.

When we’re dead in sin and trespasses

And where God’s Holy Spirit does not dwell,

We’re like our childhood teddies

Merely made so they can sell.

Because society’s ways are conditional

Filled with labels and much stuff,

Where the outside looks so lovely

But where we never have enough.

Jesus died and rose again

So we can be reconciled,

To the Father as we’re new creations

Where His Spirit will abide.

God’s glory is pure and beautiful

And His creation is so fine,

And when new life is breathed within

It is splendid and divine.

(C) P.B. 2022

“Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, because ‘All flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass.  The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the word of the Lord endures forever.’”  1 Peter 1:23-24
