A DEEPER NEED

The enemy of our soul

Masquerades as an angel of light;

To tempt us with all our desires

And to indulge in every delight.

We are created to think logically

To rationalise and to muse,

But our carnal nature and our lack of depth

Prefers to be amused.

We can justify, pretend or lie

To others all around,

But that low-level pain inside our heart

Is a chain that keeps us bound.

We can all conform to society

And to tolerate everything,

But our soul cries out for justice

And the much needed peace that truth brings.

Our task in life is simple

But we tend to complicate,

Since we value our intellectual pride

And many times the things God hates.

A revelation is required

One of deep humility,

As we humble ourselves before the Lord

So the truth we’ll find and see.

That God-shaped hole in our heart

Can never escape or leave,

Until we come to the deep realisation

That God’s love and forgiveness we need!

(C) P.B. 2018

“For Satan himself transforms himself as an angel of light.” 2 Corinthians 11:14

“These six things the Lord hates…a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness, and one who sows discord among brethren.” Proverbs 6:16-19

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

THE GOOD FIGHT

When we fight to obtain justice

We’re passionate in our plea,

To reveal the facts and expose the lies

So the truth it will set free.

When we approach all situations

With good conscience and sincere faith,

We can engage in good warfare

And we run the noble race.

But how can we be sure

That our fight is honourable,

When our motives and desires

Can at times have us fooled?

As we may sometimes fight for causes

So our duty is fulfilled,

But unless God gets the glory

Its perhaps in vain and outside His will.

It’s God’s standards that do matter

As to what is wrong and right,

And this should be our benchmark

As to which battles we should fight.

It’s all the godly family values

And the sanctity of all life,

That’s always worth fighting for

To avoid potential strife.

The breastplate of righteousness

Coupled with the shield of faith,

Protect us from the fiery arrows

And point to right action we should take.

The helmet of salvation

Protects our mind and thoughts,

As the sword of the spirit

Slays heresy of every sort.

When we gird our waist with truth

And share the gospel of peace,

We freely release the good news

So from bondage souls are released.

The good fight is imperative

If we wish to overcome,

All temptations and ungodly desires

To ensure the battle is won.

(C) P.B. 2019

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11

“Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:14-17

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

WHAT IS LOVE

A most brilliant of phenomenons

Unseen but felt with the heart;

A commitment like no other

That will always set apart.

How do we really describe it

With its many variants,

Do we really understand it

Its true meaning and essence?

Love is kind and suffers long

Does not envy nor parade;

It thinks no evil, won’t seek its own

Rejoices in truth not charades.

Love has several categories

From Agape, Eros to Philia,

All with distinct characteristics

And with emotions we hold dear.

Eros is a creative love

One of a yearning desire,

Derived from the Greek god of love

Igniting the soul with fire.

Philia is a brotherly love

An affectionate friendship so true,

Between family, friends and loved ones

With respect and honour too.

The highest form of love is Agape

It’s the love God has for His own,

And a love that we have towards Him and our spouse

Through sincerity it is known.

The epitome of love is Christ

The one who died for our sins;

He laid down His life – the purest of love

To save our soul within.

(C) P.B. 2019

“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-5

“Let brotherly love continue.” Hebrews 13:1

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” John 15:13

SHOWMANSHIP

There’s a beauty in all excellence

When it’s sincere from the heart;

Conducted with all diligence

With correct motives from the start.

We’re created to achieve much good

To be a blessing in all we do,

But sadly many times its obscured

When our desires are not true.

It’s the love of money and endless pursuits

That’s a stumbling block and snare,

When the focus is on mammon and status

And all the worldly cares.

It’s the covetousness and greedy spirit

Of wanting to have the best;

It’s that endless and insatiable appetite

That leaves no room for rest.

There’s no need to be jealous of others

Since this will bring unrest,

With a host of undesirable feelings

As we’re rendered disabled to do our best.

The Lord Jesus was never a showman

And his example was inspiring;

He focused on eternal treasures

And was never left desiring.

Let’s be content with all we have

As the spiritual wealth is what matters;

All else will perish on judgement day

Leaving our soul in tatters.

There’s a reason that a manger was used

To rest the King of Kings;

Depicting His humble nature so pure

Where true joy and peace this brings.

Our pursuits should give the glory to God

As all things belong to Him,

As we repent sincerely and humble ourselves

So our soul is cleansed within.

(C) P.B. 2019

“But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” 1 Timothy 6:9-10

“Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have.” Hebrews 13:5

“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”  1 Peter 5:5

“For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” 2 Corinthians 5:10

BRILLIANCE

Does it ever cross our mind

That we’re fearfully and wonderfully made?

With all features working in harmony

A walking miracle in many ways…

Have we ever really pondered

How the seeing eye can see?

Along with the cornea and conjunctiva

Created so beautifully.

Have we though about the brain

And its 86 billion nerve cells?

Comprising both gray and white matter

That’s composed so very well.

Our heartbeat is phenomenal

With 3 billion beats in an average lifetime,

Created to host a myriad of tasks

It is purely and simply divine.

The skin is our largest organ

As it furnishes our entire frame;

So soft and supple yet strong and robust

Yet where no fingerprint is the same.

Our God is the brilliant Creator

He’s the beginning and the end;

He wipes our tears and renews our mind

And our burdened heart He mends.

Let’s not be deceived by the lies

That society spins in its web,

That we’ve evolved from monkeys and apes

And that God we should forget.

We are brilliantly made and created

To give glory back to Him;

To humble ourselves before Almighty God

As He saves our soul within.

(C) P.B. 2019

“For you formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:13-14

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength” Isaiah 40:28-29

“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”  Genesis 1:27

THE HEART OF A FATHER

The heart of a father

Is a shepherd’s touch;

It guides and leads

And it loves very much.

It is strong and courageous

And it always stands firm;

It disciples and it teaches

So the young hearts can learn.

Its priorities are right

As it’s selfless in deeds;

It provides and it nurtures

For desires and needs.

It is warm and so caring

Render with its flock;

It ensures its safety

And that none become lost.

It’s a perfect role model

Raising boys with much strength;

To be wise and mature

And to care at great lengths.

As our Father in Heaven

Shares His mantle with men;

He distributes His nature

So they can represent Him again.

How sweet is God’s heart

As it’s reflected in fathers,

When they fulfil their given roles

Towards their family and others.

(C) P.B. 2013

“I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.” John 10:14

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” James 1:17

ONLY GOD

As specks of sand and mere dust

A handbreadth and a vapour;

A fragile tender piece of art

We’re made by our Creator.

He’s fashioned us so beautifully

As a potter does the clay,

And has numbered all our years on earth

And established our every day.

He’s the only one to draw us near

With His power and full control,

Since mankind can only plant the seed

And wait for salvation to unfold.

Only God can heal our broken heart

When we surrender at His feet;

He restores us with His precious Word

When faith and hope both meet.

Only God will hear our cries for help

And only He bottles our tears;

He’s the only one to wipe our pain

And removes all doubt and fear.

Only by grace comes our salvation

Since our good works simply won’t save,

Along with any man-made feeble attempt

That negates Christ’s sacrifice made.

Only God deserves our worship

He is brilliant and perfect too;

He desires a relationship

As we honour all things true.

(C) P.B. 2019

“For by grace you have been saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship..”  Ephesians 2:8-10

“But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; we all fade as a leaf..” Isaiah 64:6

CRY OUT

When our heart it feels the wilderness

And when our soul it greatly thirsts;

When our mind becomes a battlefield

And when we’re burdened by a curse.

When the pressure is overwhelming

And when the darkness settles in;

When there’s no hope in the distance

And when everything appears dim.

But when we cry out to the Lord

He hears our supplications;

He will never ever fail us

And displays His love and patience.

When we cry out to the Lord

We will never be disappointed,

As our shackles will be finally released

And our new life will be anointed.

When we cry out to the Lord

Our eyes will finally see,

That we’re free from spiritual blindness

To be all God wants us to be.

To cry to God with vehement tears

We repent of all our sins,

And we finally discover His grace and mercy

As we fall in love with Him.

He bottles every drop of tear

And wipes our weary eyes;

He forgives us and redeems us

And protects from the father of lies.

As we cry out to our Father

We will never be forsaken,

When like children we approach His throne

We will not be moved or shaken.

He awaits our cry from the heart

To restore and heal our soul;

He adores us more than the grains of sand

With a purity to behold.

(C) P.B. 2019

“To You I will cry, O Lord my Rock: Do not be silent to me.” Psalm 28:1

“O Lord my God, I cried out to You and You healed me.” Psalm 30:2

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him and I am helped.” Psalm 28:7

“Hear my prayer O Lord, give ear to my supplications! In Your faithfulness answer me.” Psalm 143:1

ROSE AMONGST THE THORNS

A rose will simply not exist

Without its row of thorns,

But its beauty and its sweet aroma

Every garden it adorns.

It’s symbolic of joy and wisdom

With a tremendous power too,

As it’s considered the queen of the garden

With a majesty to view.

Enduring passion is the trademark of red

Whilst humility and innocence the white;

The yellow rose depicts friendship and joy

Whilst the pink an appreciative delight.

A red and white that’s side by side

Portrays a message that’s symbolic;

It represents the crucifixion of Jesus Christ

And His resurrection, pure and holy.

Jesus walked amongst the thorns

As a recipient of scathing remarks,

Particularly from the Pharisees

With their piercing words so sharp.

Yet He was pure and so perfect

So humble and innocent too;

A pure rose that walked amongst us

With a fragrance lovely and true.

He possessed the beauty of wisdom

And reflected the Father’s power;

He’s our King of Kings, our Saviour and Lord

So required for this hour.

He endured the pain on the cross

As His passion was for our souls;

A humiliating and public death

But with a mission to uphold.

He wore the infamous crown of thorns

Our precious Jesus, our rose,

But He conquered the grave and rose again

Defeating all of His foes.

(C) P.B. 2019

“And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS”.  Revelation 19:16

TRIALS

When we’re faced with various trials

And perhaps overwhelmed with fear,

We crave for consolation

With a hope that help is near.

When anxieties arise in us

And the solution is not clear,

Faith should become our anchor

As a substance we hold dear.

When temptation extends its tentacles

To create a sticky mess,

We should turn our back and walk away

Before trouble manifests.

When the enemy of our soul

Wishes to do us harm,

God will certainly turn it around

And extend His saving arm.

The beauty in all trials

Is manifested in the end,

When we’ve learned a valuable lesson

Through the difficulties sent.

When we have unwavering trust

In God’s way and His provision,

A great outcome will arise

With wisdom in all decisions.

When we overcome our trials

We can extend a helping hand,

To those walking through their fiery tests

As we empathise and understand.

Our consolation and our hope

Should rest in our Lord and Saviour;

He’s the only one to transform our soul

And instil His love and favour.

(C) P.B. 2019

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.” James 1:2-3

“but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance, and perseverance character, and character hope.” Romans 5:3-4

“We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.” Acts 14:22

“so that we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure.” 2 Thessalonians 1:4

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1
