The higher the authority
The greater the consequence,
If we transgress the rules indeed
Since there’s a required recompense.
If a child disobeys
The parent disciplines accordingly;
So respect and honour become the standard
To foster healthy boundaries.
If a student disrespects a teacher
Then detention is the norm;
To reinstate the teacher’s authority
In every method and form.
If we steal or if we murder
Then a jail term awaits,
With a sentence that will fit the crime
Behind those cold, steel rusty gates.
If a king is betrayed
Then certain death can occur;
When the accused is guilty of treason
As much unrest this will stir.
Since we’ve all offended a holy God
Certain death we all can see…
As we’ve transgressed against an eternal being
With a heavy price for eternity.
But Christ in His mercy
Paid this heavy price in full;
To ransom His from the wrath of God
And where sin no longer rules.
The higher the authority
Dictates the level of punishment…
Let’s be vigilant and honour God
As we sincerely pray and repent.
