BRILLIANCE

Does it ever cross our mind

That we’re fearfully and wonderfully made?

With all features working in harmony

A walking miracle in many ways…

Have we ever really pondered

How the seeing eye can see?

Along with the cornea and conjunctiva

Created so beautifully.

Have we though about the brain

And its 86 billion nerve cells?

Comprising both gray and white matter

That’s composed so very well.

Our heartbeat is phenomenal

With 3 billion beats in an average lifetime,

Created to host a myriad of tasks

It is purely and simply divine.

The skin is our largest organ

As it furnishes our entire frame;

So soft and supple yet strong and robust

Yet where no fingerprint is the same.

Our God is the brilliant Creator

He’s the beginning and the end;

He wipes our tears and renews our mind

And our burdened heart He mends.

Let’s not be deceived by the lies

That society spins in its web,

That we’ve evolved from monkeys and apes

And that God we should forget.

We are brilliantly made and created

To give glory back to Him;

To humble ourselves before Almighty God

As He saves our soul within.

“For you formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:13-14

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength” Isaiah 40:28-29

“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”  Genesis 1:27

THE HEART OF A FATHER

The heart of a father

Is a shepherd’s touch;

It guides and leads

And it loves very much.

It is strong and courageous

And it always stands firm;

It disciples and it teaches

So the young hearts can learn.

Its priorities are right

As it’s selfless in deeds;

It provides and it nurtures

For desires and needs.

It is warm and so caring

Render with its flock;

It ensures its safety

And that none become lost.

It’s a perfect role model

Raising boys with much strength;

To be wise and mature

And to care at great lengths.

As our Father in Heaven

Shares His mantle with men;

He distributes His nature

So they can represent Him again.

How sweet is God’s heart

As it’s reflected in fathers,

When they fulfil their given roles

Towards their family and others.

“I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.” John 10:14

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” James 1:17

ONLY GOD

As specks of sand and mere dust

A handbreadth and a vapour;

A fragile tender piece of art

We’re made by our Creator.

He’s fashioned us so beautifully

As a potter does the clay,

And has numbered all our years on earth

And established our every day.

He’s the only one to draw us near

With His power and full control,

Since mankind can only plant the seed

And wait for salvation to unfold.

Only God can heal our broken heart

When we surrender at His feet;

He restores us with His precious Word

When faith and hope both meet.

Only God will hear our cries for help

And only He bottles our tears;

He’s the only one to wipe our pain

And removes all doubt and fear.

Only by grace comes our salvation

Since our good works simply won’t save,

Along with any man-made feeble attempt

That negates Christ’s sacrifice made.

Only God deserves our worship

He is brilliant and perfect too;

He desires a relationship

As we honour all things true.

(C) P.B. 2019

“For by grace you have been saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship..”  Ephesians 2:8-10

CRY OUT

When our heart it feels the wilderness

And when our soul it greatly thirsts;

When our mind becomes a battlefield

And when we’re burdened by a curse.

When the pressure is overwhelming

And when the darkness settles in;

When there’s no hope in the distance

And when everything appears dim.

But when we cry out to the Lord

He hears our supplications;

He will never ever fail us

And displays His love and patience.

When we cry out to the Lord

We will never be disappointed,

As our shackles will be finally released

And our new life will be anointed.

When we cry out to the Lord

Our eyes will finally see,

That we’re free from spiritual blindness

To be all God wants us to be.

To cry to God with vehement tears

We repent of all our sins,

And we finally discover His grace and mercy

As we fall in love with Him.

He bottles every drop of tear

And wipes our weary eyes;

He forgives us and redeems us

And protects from the father of lies.

As we cry out to our Father

We will never be forsaken,

When like children we approach His throne

We will not be moved or shaken.

He awaits our cry from the heart

To restore and heal our soul;

He adores us more than the grains of sand

With a purity to behold.

ROSE AMONGST THE THORNS

A rose will simply not exist

Without its row of thorns,

But its beauty and its sweet aroma

Every garden it adorns.

It’s symbolic of joy and wisdom

With a tremendous power too,

As it’s considered the queen of the garden

With a majesty to view.

Enduring passion is the trademark of red

Whilst humility and innocence the white;

The yellow rose depicts friendship and joy

Whilst the pink an appreciative delight.

A red and white that’s side by side

Portrays a message that’s symbolic;

It represents the crucifixion of Jesus Christ

And His resurrection, pure and holy.

Jesus walked amongst the thorns

As a recipient of scathing remarks,

Particularly from the Pharisees

With their piercing words so sharp.

Yet He was pure and so perfect

So humble and innocent too;

A pure rose that walked amongst us

With a fragrance lovely and true.

He possessed the beauty of wisdom

And reflected the Father’s power;

He’s our King of Kings, our Saviour and Lord

So required for this hour.

He endured the pain on the cross

As His passion was for our souls;

A humiliating and public death

But with a mission to uphold.

He wore the infamous crown of thorns

Our precious Jesus, our rose,

But He conquered the grave and rose again

Defeating all of His foes.

TRIALS

When we’re faced with various trials

And perhaps overwhelmed with fear,

We crave for consolation

With a hope that help is near.

When anxieties arise in us

And the solution is not clear,

Faith should become our anchor

As a substance we hold dear.

When temptation extends its tentacles

To create a sticky mess,

We should turn our back and walk away

Before trouble manifests.

When the enemy of our soul

Wishes to do us harm,

God will certainly turn it around

And extend His saving arm.

The beauty in all trials

Is manifested in the end,

When we’ve learned a valuable lesson

Through the difficulties sent.

When we have unwavering trust

In God’s way and His provision,

A great outcome will arise

With wisdom in all decisions.

When we overcome our trials

We can extend a helping hand,

To those walking through their fiery tests

As we empathise and understand.

Our consolation and our hope

Should rest in our Lord and Saviour;

He’s the only one to transform our soul

And instil His love and favour.

(C) P.B. 2019

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.” James 1:2-3

“but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance, and perseverance character, and character hope.” Romans 5:3-4

“We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.” Acts 14:22

“so that we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure.” 2 Thessalonians 1:4

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1

WHAT DRIVES US?

Every morning when we awake

We all make a choice or decision,

And depending on the quality of our thoughts

It will determine our true vision.

If there’s a traffic jam in our head

With all incoherent thoughts,

There’s a windy road with no u-turn

With assumptions of all sorts.

If we’re stuck in neutral all day long

We may just receive a parking fine,

Since our heart and soul has been stagnated

And we’re sadly left behind.

To accelerate into overdrive

Is ambitious but also unwise,

If we haven’t thoroughly prepared

To sift the truth from the lies.

Sometimes we can be stuck in reverse

When we refuse to forgive or forget;

To let go of our hurtful past

Or to settle all regrets.

And when we’re in second gear

There’s a mountain we need to climb;

It’s when discipline and determination

Has trained our heart and mind.

When we encounter a flat tyre

It’s a blessing in disguise;

When our plans could lead to trouble

And when our choices are not wise.

There is a driving force

That will never fail or break down,

As it’s on the long and narrow path

That leads to an eternal crown.

OUR GREAT PHYSICIAN

When we attend the doctor’s office

We expect a full recovery;

When with wisdom we are diagnosed

So from our illness we’re set free.

The doctor will first reveal any bad news

Of what our condition truly is,

But then provides a solution

With a detailed prescribed list.

When our physical ailments are revealed

Most times we recover quick,

Since there’s an answer for our healing

So we do not remain sick.

Likewise there’s a doctor for our soul

And He is our great physician;

He forgives, restores and heals entirely

So we regain our original condition.

This doctor has made it very clear

And provides the bad news first,

That we’re all sinners in need of redemption

And for God we need to thirst.

Our medicine and our antidote

Is to hunger and thirst for Him,

As His healing touch and restorative ways

Can mend our soul within.

He gives us the good news indeed

When we’re restored to our right position;

When we surrender our life and trust in Him

As He becomes our great physician.

(C) P.B. 2019

PRETTY LIES

We’re been accustomed to a train of thought

When society paints a picture,

Of how our mind should think and act

Along with a list of features.

But do we really question

The source of all information?

Do we really dig deep enough

Or rely on mere sensation?

Fake news and all propaganda

Can infiltrate our mind,

As we move along with the feeble crowd

And leave common sense behind.

We’ve been fed a smorgasbord of lies

With a feast of misinformation,

When it pertains to the glory of self

To receive credit without hesitation.

We’re fed an entree of fables

When we exalt ourselves indeed;

When our pride and ego raises its head

So more myths our soul it feeds.

The dessert always looks appealing

As it’s the sweetest of all platters,

But when deception comes to spin its web

It’s no longer a trifle matter.

Our life on earth is a grain of sand

In the scheme of eternity,

And when those eyes awake from our slumber

We can see reality.

When we put things in perspective

Appreciating good character traits,

We are merely on a pilgrim’s journey

Knowing that God we’ll face.

Only God deserves our heartfelt praise

All credit and honour too;

He’s the only one worthy to be exalted

With His tender mercies so true.

Let’s remember our simple purpose in life

To adore Him with sincere love;

To serve our neighbour and do them no harm

And keep our focus on above.

SHATTERED DREAMS

Life has many peaks and valleys

And maybe filled with expectations,

But sometimes our dreams, ambitions and hopes

Become stagnant with hesitations.

Shattered dreams can leave a wound in our soul

When our aims and goals are hampered;

Leaving a scar in our heart and mind

When our desires have been tampered.

Sometimes it’s a blessing in disguise

When our dear dreams are shattered,

Since God sees the big picture

And redirects us to things that matter.

Through many trials we learn and grow

And through pressures we’re refined,

Like precious gold that lasts forever

Renewing our heart and mind.

The caterpillar needs to struggle

Before it displays its glorious ways;

Cocooned for a time in solitude

In darkness for many days.

Although hard-pressed and maybe confused

We will never be forsaken,

As God’s tender love leaves us not in despair

When we’re persecuted but not shaken.

God is in control of everything

And it’s best to be moulded by Him,

So our dear soul is delivered, set free

And not destroyed by our own ways and whims.

So when we encounter shattered dreams

Our steps will be redirected,

With new beginnings and opportunities

And a blessing to those affected.
